What is a trunk show and what are its benefits?

Hi...i know what a sample sale is...is a trunk show similar? Are the dresses discounted? Is there an advantage to going to a trunk show rather than just purchasing the dress during a regular time in the store?
I am totally confused!

I'm not completely sure, so if someone wants to correct me feel free.

The way I understand it is that the designer sends samples of dresses that are not widely carried. This way brides are able to see dresses they may not see any other way. Often there will be a discount. I think usually 10%-15%.

With most trunk shows, the designer is on site at the bridal shop with his/her entire line of gowns. The benefit is that if you are interested in a particular designer, you have the opportunity to see all of their gowns and maybe some new ones that haven't been shown and you can also speak to the designer if there is any custom work you want done. Definitely a plus if you are tall, petite, want sleeves, etc., as this is sometime hard to convey to the bridal attendant.

Described perfectly by chefe.
In addition, I think there is often a discount offered if you order a dress from the trunk show.

In a sample sale you are buying dresses that have been tried on by 100s of brides and may be damaged. At a trunk sale you are ordering a new dress at discount.
