Can someone please explain a wishing well to me? My MIL is bringing it to my shower and she told me that we need to ask everyone to bring a small kitchen gadget on the invitations.
I thought a wishing well is just where people write nice wishes to you and drop them in. What do kitchen gadgets have to do with anything? She was so dumbfounded I didn't know that she couldn't explain it. I'm from upstate and I don't understand many traditions of a Bronx family. And all my BM are clueless too, so they can't explain. It would be funny, but the invitations are about to go out in a few days. TIA!!!!

A wishing well is something in the shape of a well usually with an umbrella over it that goes to your shower. It is just for small items such as household things including gadgets, cleansers and sometimes even canned food or baby food. It is to wish the couple well.

For my shower, it was a Christmas themed wishing well. The actual wishing well was a Christmas tree and everyone was asked to bring an ornament or something festive for us to start our new lives with. Some people have lingerie wishing wells also!

for my wishing well, it was a kitchen theme. i was at a shower where it was a honeymoon theme. for my sister, we had a time theme. if u had 7am, someone would bring coffee or tea

yup.... its just a place for guest to bring a small gift in addtion to their larger one.... like kitchen gadgets, a can opener, serving spoon, melen baller, things like that. i got kitchen towels, pot holders, lint rollers... anything little... they can also have themese like christmas where everyone would bring a small christmas decoration or ornament for you to use in your new house together..... some people do honeymoon themed wishing wells where everyone brings things for the honeymoon like suntan lotion, books for the beach, sunglasses, etc..... basically, its just a bunch of little stuff- and some of that tends to be the stuff you use the most

me and my MOH made one for our friend who got married
instead of renting one we made it. Out of a garbage pail, 2 mops and a laundry basket. Got some fabric and flowers and went nuts with a glue gun
people bought little items to throw in it garlic press, chip clips, magnets, sponges..etc the little things people dot register for but will prob need!

Yep. it's for little kitchen stuff, like a rolling pin, soup ladle, for my cousn's wishing well I gave nice B&BW soaps..little stuff like that...I just wanted to add that on the ivnite, you would just write 'wishing wll' somewhere near the bottom...you don't need to elaborate any firther
