my wedding is in about 5 weeks, started planning it last week. (long story short - my mom was making my life miserable regarding my original wedding to take place next year, so i moved up the wedding). anyway, i will likely miss out on a lot of little wedding things b/c of it - bridal shower, bachelorette party, etc.
well, my bm's asked me for a list of who i'd like to invite to the shower. i know that usu people invited to the shower will also be invited to the wedding, but in this case, i am only inviting 7 of my friends to the wedding (4 of them are in my bridal party and 3 are close friends). i would like to have my original friends invited to the shower, if i even have one.
ISSUE: what is appropriate?

Re: What is appropriate?
ettiquette says you are to only invite guests of the wedding to the shower... So technically you should only invite those 7 friends.... BUT if your other friends know of the long story & understand why you can't invite them to the wedding-- Then your MOH can call them and tell them you still would love for them to be apart of your special occasion by coming to the bridal shower--- maybe you can invite them to the ceremony too?

I think that is a good idea. We have alot of people from work we wanted to invite...but once u ask one, others get mad if they aren't invited...so we are explaining that we cannot invite anyone from work to the wedding, but we would love to see them at the ceremony. And I think if they know that you had to move the wedding up, they will understand. I think the way the post from kat74 was worded regarding the shower is nice too, nice way to explain it.

I agree - especially with your circumstances. I'm sure your friends will understand.

Re: What is appropriate?
We had a small wedding out-of-state, and only invited our closest friends & family (about 45 people). MIL wanted to invite her friends to the shower even though they weren't invited to the wedding, and I was really uncomfortable about it. But she insisted they would be fine with it & wanted them to share a part of our festivities, so she invited them. They were fine with it, knew they weren't being invited to the wedding only because it was a small wedding.
As long as the people who aren't invited to the wedding know that they're not invited before they receive a shower invitation, I think it's perfectly fine. If I was one of those friends, I would be happy to attend your shower!
