What is beadboard?

What is beadboard?

We heard about it but we're not exactly sure what it is. Is it paneling? Or a form of sheetrock? We're thinking that we might be able to use it for either the kitchen or the bathroom but we're not sure of what it involves.

Bead board usually comes in the form of tongue and groove boards. They interlock together and get blind nailed, therefore you do not see the nail heads. It can go on the walls like wainscotting but usually is on the ceiling. You have most likely seen it as the ceiling on a covered porch. It does not come in sheets, that is wainscotting. The bead board comes in many sizes and species of wood but is more expensive than the wainscotting sheets. I recommend wainscotting for walls and bead board for ceilings

Thanks for the input. The problem that we have right now in the bathroom is half of it is that thick ceramic tile which we don't want to take out and the top part was wallpaper. When we removed the wallpaper we found another wallpaper which is glued to the plaster. We can't take it down without damaging the plaster. So we're trying to come up with solutions. We might have to just wallpaper over it and worry about it when we redo the bathroom in a couple of years.

We had almost the same issue! The old owners put contact paper, (of the night sky), over the walls and even the counter! The walls behind it were a nightmare. We actually put three heavy coats of spackle on and it still shows imperfections. I'm planning on doing a sponge painting technique to cover that up! We are also planning on redoing the bathroom, but it will be quite a while before we can afford it.
