I'm so dumb! Seriously, can someone explain what it is and why everyone wants to do it?

Re: What is 'Hand Canceling?'
Instead of the post office running your nice (probably thick, and maybe bumpy- if you have embellishments) invitations through the sorting machine and possible wrecking your invites and making the outer envelope ugly (with that red stampage that the machine puts over the stamps), you take a stamp and 'cancel' the stamps yourself.
The stamp that you do by hand is a small circle, and much prettier.
Plus you don't run the risk of your invites getting ripped/stuck in the machines because of their thickness
