What is her problem?

What is her problem?

My Matron of honor is my Aunt. She lives in NJ. Recently, I was having a telephone convo with her and I just mentioned to her that I was reminding her of the Rhearsal and dinner to follow which is a week before my wedding. She starting getting an attitiude and complaining how most weddings have their rehearsal the night before.. I explained to her that being our wedding is the weekend of thanksgiving, the church did not offer us that Friday night. It's not my choice! She then proceeds to cop some more attitude saying how I don't NEED a rheasal DINNER! OK... well, I know I don't NEED one, but my Fiance's father has been nice enough to offer to throw one for us. That's really none of her concern. She tells me how I am being so inconsiderate in expecting out og town guests to travel one week prior the wedding for the rhearsal... UMM ok.. I don't think this was called for.. I then tell her that I don't understand why she us getting all heated and getting loud with me. She then changed the subject and was B**** about how she is going to have to pay for a hotel room the night before my wedding.. Now.. months ago she told me that her and my uncle were getting a hotel room, that was her decision. I never told her she HAD to do that. Now she is making it seem like I'm putting her out!? She tells me she is not going to come to the rhearsal that she knows how to walk down the aisle. I said ok, you know what, if you feel so inconveinced I am sure you will not be attending my bridal shower (by the way my mom is taking charge of this i.e., sending out the invites and booking a place) nor my bachlorette party.

Now first of all she is not an OUT OF TOWN GUEST. SHE is my aunt and my Matron of honor. She makes it seem like she just wants to be present at the wedding to walk down the aisle and not helping my mom with the shower or anything. The conversation ended with me telling her I was disapointed in her attitude and the way she is acting and that I done with this conversation and I said good bye.

This was Friday. She has not called to apologize and it's now Sunday. The way I see it at this point... I don't give a c*** if she declines being my MOH.. less aggravation for me. I will gladly choose someone else. If she does not decline then I guess I will see how things go. Mind you this is an Aunt who basically never gone out of her way for me, nor have I ever expected to... Everyone else agree's that for a couple of times during ONE year she could go out of her way for my wedding. She is acting selfish and for some reason I think she is jealous in a sick way b/c she keeps mentioning how when she had her wedding 13 years ago... she did not have this and she did not have that.. I mean what's the point in saying that unless there is some jealousy there. To me it's quite sick that an AUNT is jealous of your wedding day..UGHHH sorry I just really needed to get this off my mind.

What do you think here girls?

Yipes! Is this the first time you've had a problem with her about the wedding? Maybe she was having a bad day when you had the telephone conversation?

I am grasping at straws but trying to give her the benefit of the doubt....

Re: What is her problem?

No this is not the first time.. I had a problem with her a couple of months ago when I was trying to get her to order her Bridesmaid dress. She had told me she was going to come to LI for a few days to visit her twin which lives here on LI and then visit me so we could go get her fitted for the dress. It turned out she calls me two days before she was supposed to come and said that she can't leave her dogs home alone b/c her husband was not home.. OK I made those arrangements with her a month prior, so you mean to tell me she could not have made arrangements...That was the first time I witnessed her not acting right.

Personally I think it's wrong of her to even act this way..and if she is so inconvenienced, and so bothered, then why did she agree to come out? I will NEVER understand people, but this seems to be the 'norm' w/family and friends as the big day gets closer. However, that doesn't mean it's ok...nor does it mean it's right. If she's causing you this much stress and grief... then she shouldn't be a part of your big day. Don't let anyone stress you out...its uncalled for and unecessary.

What I am going to do is by the end of this week, if she doesn't come around I will call her and let her know she can step down from being the matron of honor since this role is inconviencing her so much and her attitude *****.

I think it's terrible for anyone to act that way, much less someone who is related to you. In this situation, I would offer her the option of stepping aside as your MOH and perhaps she should be a BM instead. If she does want to be your MOH, which is an HONOR, she needs to put her own selfish pettiness aside and start acting like a human being. I don't think anything you've asked of her is unreasonable. I just think she needs to realize your wedding is not about her.

that stinks!

i was just curious...you seem to not have that great of a relationship with her in the first place...why did you ask her to be your matron of honor?

Coming from someone who wished she had demoted her MOH, I whole heartedly agree with this.

On your big day and the weeks leading up to it you want to be surrounded by people who will help you out and be there for you. Not negative people trying to bring you down.

We always got along and had a great relationship. She just started acting like this around May.. after her and my uncle bought their townhouse.. she started to change.

After she bought the house and I noticed she was acting different towards me, I told her very nicely that I would understand if she wanted to decline as being the MOH b/c I understand that she just bought a new house and things are very busy for her at the time.. she kinda turned things around and made it seem like I was telling her that I did not want her to be my MOH. Afterwards she apologized but since then.. it's been strange with her.
