What is the average amount people put into the envelope? w/poll

I am just trying to figure out an approximate total of monetary wedding gifts

(I know-- a bit tacky--but I kinda need to figure out what I should be expecting-- for honeymoon and help on a house downpayment)

most couples will leave more than your two options...Average is about $200 and many leave more since weddings are so expensive now

BUT be prepared you can never guess what you will get from certain people...I just had my e-party last week and I was shocked at how much we got and alot of ppl even surprised us

Wow thats a hard one, it depends on the person and their financial status. I think if you avg. about
$100 a person kids not included you might come close. But OOT ppl tend to give gifts, so you mihgt have to figure that in! Good luck!

I would think 100 pp

But hopefully more from some ppl to compensate for those that give less!

We usually leave at least $200.

It's not tacky--you are being practical. Me and the FH were trying to figure this out too.

I'm not sure what the average is, but when the two of us go to a wedding we give $250—only b/c I know how expensive these places are today.

Id' say the last few weddings we wnt to we gave $200..... I think It also depends on who it is....cause if its like a close family member theyy might give more.....at least I know I would

I think you'll always have people that surprise you -- we usually give $300 knowing how expensive everything is. We figure our gift should cover our plate cost.

My brother got an envelope with a $50 JC Penny gift certificate inside...he also got just cards and good wishes...you really never know...

I agree. Tough poll since everyones financial situation is different. I do believe that the average is about $100..

It is a very weird thing- going through my sisters envelopes- last year- wow

I know its financial .. but it HURTS sometimes, when you see what close friends give... which is tacky- I KNOW

I have been give 150 a person for a year now- I thought that was a 'going Long Island rate'

i was completed blown away by people's generosity.... our average gift was abotu $300.00 and it was great because our wedding was very inexpensive so we did very well..... my out of state friends were cheap... gifts of $50.00 are the norm where they're from.....

FH and I are usually generous, but we can't expect it back from others. Its expensive to have and to attend a wedding!

Varies greatly.

It really depends on several factors: 1. how much money they have 2. their relationship with you 3. how much they THINK you spent.

I went an oot wedding last summer and gave 100, primarily because I knew how much my own wedding was and figured this would at least cover my plate (she was having it on a Friday of a holiday weekend and to be honest i was not close to her at all - she must have had a high min at her hall). Anyways the amount to give was a huge issue between me and my friends. One of my friends gave $50. Her belief was they had not been very close in the last year and half and after her wedding she woudl probably never see her again. This friend has a good job and had no real expenses since she was living at home. So moral of the story - you never know!!
