What is the avg price of your registry gifts?

What is the avg price of your registry gifts?

I know you are supposed to register for what you need but I wouldn't be too happy if someone bought me 2 towels and a bath mat for a wedding gift. I am not trying to sound like an ingrate but we are spending a lot per plate.

One of my friends was upset when she paid close to $300 per person after tax and gratuity and one friend bought her one PLATE. She bought her just one plate, not the set.

My registry ranged from $25 items to $500 item. You can expect to receive some very generous gifts and you can also expect to receive nothing. Honestly, you shouldn't expect anyone to 'pay for their plate' by buying a gift of equal value. It probably won't happen. At the end of the day, I didn't care about the gifts, I was just happy to have people that cared about me come to my wedding.

I think it depends on the persons financial situation........

If I spent $300 per person, I definitely wouldn't expect that back in a gift. JMO though. They were invited to spend the day and celebrate with us......not pay us back for the food (again, JMO).

We will be grateful for any gift we get.......if we don't receive a gift from someone, that's OK too. It's not going to bother us in the least

Well, this is not what you're going to want to hear (sorry!), but I am of the opinion that we do not invite guests to our wedding to give us gifts. We invite them to share in our special day and if they choose to give a gift, we should be grateful. While this does NOT apply to you personally (as I don't believe you meant your post this way), I personally am a little bit tired of hearing how brides feel as if they are entitled to certain gifts or a certain amount of money per guest because of what they chose to spend on the wedding. Getting married isn't about getting gifts...

Not everyone can afford to cover the cost of their plate at your wedding -- and it was your choice how much to spend per head at the wedding, not the guest's. Proper etiquette dictates that you should provide a variety of choices in different price ranges on your registry so that people can choose how much they want / can afford to spend.

Yes, I think it's rude not to give a gift at all at a wedding, especially if you can afford one, but I think how much one spends is entirely up to that individual person.

I'm sure people disagree with me, but this is how I feel. I don't feel like people should annoyed that someone was not as generous with a gift as the recipient would have liked. People should be grateful to get a gift at all, not whine about how much the person spent on the gift. No matter how well you think you know people, everyone's financial situation is different and everyone has different financial priorities. I don't think guests should be obligated to give a particular amount to the bride and groom when they are invited to a wedding... And again, how much the bride and groom spent on the wedding should not be the guests' concern.

Just my $.02. Off my soapbox now...

Items on my registrys ranged from $25 to $400.

I know this is not what you want to hear but some guests were very giving and gave us a lot and some just gave us as little as $25. Sometime ppl just can't afford to give a lot and sometimes ppl are just cheap. Either way I wouldn't expenct ppl to cover their plate.

my range is about $30-$300 and the average price item is about $80. It really is true that many friends may not be able to afford much.... and their financial situation may even be a well-guarded secret. don't think about the stuff.... just enjoy the company..... all the cards will fall where they may.....

I try to be considerate. None of my family and friends are rich (with the exception of 2 cousins,
but 1 is very cheap). There are just 2 things over $100. The majority are between $20-60.

We tried to but a range of prices on the registry. This will give our guests plenty of options.

I have things ranging from 20-200 dollars. You have to remember too wedding 'culture' is not the same everywhere. Here on LI we have quite a big, fancy wedding culture, however if you have guests from certain states (as I do) where they only serve cake at the reception and give actual gifts instead gifts of money they may not give what certain people 'expect' at their wedding. Just be understanding and know that whatever they get you I'm sure is from the heart...

remember, too, that when people shop for things on your registry, some have a few people chip in for one big gift....like sisters, or a couple of friends together. So you need to have some big ticket items.

Then there are those who want to get you something small....think shower - not just wedding - maybe someone wants to get a gift card, but give you something small so you have a gift to open...

then there are those that buy a whole bunch of inexpensive things, and wrap 'em all up - like the bath mat, towels, shower curtain, bath accessories, etc....

just register for what you like, and see what you get...

I tell my daughter sometimes...you get what you get, and you don't get upset!

I agree. Where I'm from, it's more common to receive 'actual presents' than money. Weddings aren't nearly as lavish here as they are on LI (I wish....lol). Everyone has a different situation
