I cruise a lot- have been on 7 and I love to go luxury!!!!
Be careful when you say luxury-There are a lot of luxury ships that cater to an older crowd. They are staid and a little boring so be careful. (Think the ship closes down after 9 pm and Thurston Howell)..... The food is amazing but you will not love it. Like the QE2, the Cunard, Seabourn, etc...
Then there is large luxury with people our age. I love LOVE LOVE Celebrity Cruises. I think that their newer ships with the S.S. restaurant that you specially make reservations for---- the ships called the Millenium ships--- just came out in 2002 are the best!!!! I love celebrity for service, food, activities and entertainment and cariibean ports of call. Check them out! You won't be sorry.

I would look into Celebrity and Royal Caribbean you should be fine with either one -

ive never been on any cruises but i am going on one for our honeymoon and we are going on the Norweigen dawn that goes to the bahamas and florida and we cant wait!!!!!!!

Ive been on RCCL, Carnival and Norweigan. I will say that the Norweigan Sea was aweful! So if you can avoid that ship, do so at all costs. As a result, I wont sail with Norweigan again but i know its possible their newer ships are better.
As a rule i think the newer the ship, the better the experience since there are a lot more activities for larger/newer boats.

I enjoyed my trip on Carnival, but since it's the only cruiseline I've ever used I couldn't say it's the best. I can tell you that they are one of the only cruiselines that leave out of NY. So if you want to avoid flying, you should check them out. I think only Carnival and RC leave right out of NY.

I have been on Carnival numerous times and always had a great time. I always go on the newest ships though because they have more ammenities and now have specialty restaurants.
We are going on Royal Carribean in January and it looks awesome. I know a ton of people that have been on RCL and love it and it seems like a more younger clientele.
Every person I know that was on Celebrity has raved so I think that will be our next choice : ).
I'm sure you'll have a good time whatever line you take.
