What is the correct steps

to change your name? Like what do I do first. This stinks that the girl has to do all the work lol.

First you should go to the DMV and SS to get new cards. These you have to do in person. Everything else, passport, cc, banks, insurance, etc you can do by phone or mail.

i did SSA first, then DMV. i did SSA first only because to change my name w/ HR at work, i had to show my new SS card w/ my new name. i was in and out of SSA and DMV w/in 30 min. i actually think DMV was more like 15 min. i was able to change credit cards over the phone. my bank acct i opened w/ my new name and brought a copy of my marriage cert w/ me. passport i haven't done yet, but it expires this oct which is why i'm waiting.
