What is the courtesy if a couple gets married and divorced in a month?(M)
My friend did the silly thing and got married about a month ago. Her husband is abusive and controlling...She is trying to leave and is wondering about the policy of returning gifts. What is the ettiquite here?

in my understanding, if a marriage does not last for at least a year, all gifts must be returned.

Your best bet would be to return the unused gifts with a note stating the marriage is ending, but thank you for your kind thoughts and love or something of that sort very short and to the point. The remainder of the gifts could be sent a normal thank you note, with no mention of the ending marriage. Since you can't give them back a used gift.
you may want to offer to your friend to write these for her (or help)...I'm sure she will need help
