What is the etiquette for Mother of the Bride/Groom Dress?
Are they supposed to match the colors of the wedding?

I dont think so, but my mom and FMIL want to wear blue so it will go with my purple theme. I think they just need to stay away from white. My friends MIL wore a white dress at my friends wedding

I don't know but, I am sure it could go either way. Whatever my mom is comfortable in she can wear as long as it is not ugly, lol!!

they are supposed to compliment your colors...and the brides mom should choose her color first... (so I am told...)

Oh ok.. so they need to coordinate with the colors not necessarily match. That works!!

Re: What is the etiquette for Mother of the Bride/Groom Dress?
My BM dresses are a blue taffeta (see my avatar) that looks different in different lighting, so MOB and FMIL are avoiding blue so they don't clash.
I always wanted my mom to wear a wine/plum/purple color (her fav color + wine/blue are my sorority colors) and she found a dress in that color she thinks she likes. FMIL hasnt looked yet but knows to avoid white/ivory and plans to avoid black as well.
Are MOB and FMIL supposed to make sure to wear different colors?

if my FMIL was alive... i wouldn't want her and my mother wearing the same color.. i would have wanted each to have their own color....

My FBIL and his wife definitely didn't follow with this idea My FMIL wore a lovely taupe dress with matching jacket that had beading along the edges and it coordinated perfectly with the seafoam green BM dresses. MOB wore an absolutely hideous poodle pink suit thing with matching dyed pumps And my FBIL's wife kept saying how beautiful it was, blah blah blah!!!

Actually I think the brides mom picks what color she would like to wear and then the grooms mom picks... (this is what fmil told me)
