In Suffolk I think either Tellers in Islip or Gatsby's, also in Islip...Been to more romantic ones in the city, but these are the most around me on LI.

Ohh it is so yummy, and over the top formal-like--they come around with those crumb-scrapers every time you take a bite of bread! You have to get the filet mignon--delicious if you are a meat eater.

I've seen people in jeans (I don't think there is an official dress code), but I usually wear black pants, G usually wears khakis and a shirt. Definitely not jacket required type of place, though you wouldn't stick out if you did wear that. Here's the website if you want to get hungry!

Candela by Union Square is supposed to be romantic. We're going to try to go in two weeks. It may be real noisy though, I'm not sure. It has all candles all around the place.

Re: What is the most romantic restaurant you have been to

I know of the most unbelievably romantic place. My FH took me there the day after we got engaged. He was supposed to propose there but knew I would know as soon as we walked in. Anyway, it's called Philip Marie and it is in the village. Upstairs is just a regular restaurant but down stairs they have a wine room where you have a completely private dinner. You are basically in small wine cellar with your own private waiter and an open menu where the chef comes out and allows you to create your own 4 course meal. They can make whatever you want from ostrich to buffalo to chicken to fish (anything!). It is amazing. Plus, they pair up wines to go with each course. And you would think the cost would completely outrageous....but it is only $200 plus tip..and that is total (NOT per person). If you went to Tavern on the Green or something like that it would definitely cost more.
sorry to sound like a commercial but we had the best experience and are going back to celebrate on the anniversary of our engagement. If you have any questions FM me.

Candela was romantic too but I felt the tables were a little too close together.
