My FH and I were trying to make an estimate as to how much money we may get total from our wedding but neither one of us know the standard or average people give.
What is the standard you receive from your guest?
Does it change depending on when the wedding is, day or night, Friday, Saturday, Sunday?
I could really use your help!
Thanks!

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
This question is hard to answer! I don't think it varies much by time of day, I think it varies more by families and only the two of you really know your families. In my case, I know that my side will give significantly less than FH's side because his side is, generally speaking, more 'well off'. But I can't even begin to guess for you. All I can tell you is that I know me personally, when FH and I go to a wedding we usually give approx $100 each, or $200 for the couple. But depending on how well we know them and what our financial position is at the time, it can be anywhere from $100 - $200 for the couple... and sometimes more if we are really close to the couple.
You also have to take into account the fact that some people will give significantly less, some more, and some not at all.... not to mention your no-shows... I think calculating your gifts is pretty difficult... I'm not even bothering.

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
i have no idea what we will receive but as far as what we give i would say generally $250. to me it wouldn't change depending on the day or night, friday, sat or sun. it may change if (1) one of us in in the wedding party, (2) it's one of our sisters or (3) if it is out of town.

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
I don't think there is a standard, just depends on who the wedding is for..
For my cousin's wedding I gave $300, If i was in BP I would have gave at least $600 For a friend's wedding I gave $200 My brother was best man $1000.00 Parents gave him $600.00
But on the other hand, I received engagement presents from $25-$500r...so NO IDEA TO gauge how my family will pay..I am averaging about $250-$350 per couple for my wedding..

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
There is no 'Standard'
People give what they can. You may receive $100 per person. You may receive nothing from some people. Or you might get lucky and receive a generous amount per person or per couple. I think everyone gives what they can.
We tried to calculate and did $100 per person. But you never know! I'll let you know after the honeymoon! o

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
Sams - there was once a poll about this on the Newlywed Board (how much people got based on # of guests) so try to do a search. OR maybe you can start a new poll of your own on that board.

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
Our average was $200 a couple. Of course, we had some guest who were extremely generous and some who were not.

i think $100 per PERSON is a good estimate to use when you are trying to calculate how much you are going to get. Some will give more and some less. I think if you use this estimate you will end up getting more than you thought and that will make you very happy!

I used to think $200 for a couple was alright, but now I think it really depends on the person, the place, and the day of the affair.

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
We used to give $200, but we went to a weding this weekend and all of our friends (all couples) gave $300, so we did to. I think averaging $100 a person is a safe guess.

Re: What is the standard wedding gift?
I think that the average is $100 per person. My brother told me that he wants to buy us something from the registry.
Some people will give more. I know that because almost everyone at our engagement party gave $100 per couple. That's a lot. We were VERY surprised. But, there were people who gave $20 gifts at the bridal shower, so again, I have no idea.
I am guestimating $100 per person. We are still going to be 'in the red' because dinner is more than $100 per person, but we didn't care about gifts, we just want to have a nice and fun wedding!
