Parents Arrested for Leaving Baby Alone In Car

A couple from London, England was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child Tuesday after they left their 4-month-old daughter in a locked vehicle while they shopped at the Green Acres Mall, police said.

The couple, Goldie and Yisroel Singer, of 31 Clifton Gardens, London, were released on bail and were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Nassau County police officers Jack Volpe and Roy McComb said passers-by flagged them down near Wal-Mart in the parking lot of the Valley Stream mall at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday when they noticed a baby girl sitting alone in a child restraint seat in the back of a car.

Volpe and McComb then checked the registration of the car and paged the owners inside the Walmart store.

The Singers returned to the vehicle after about 10 minutes with their two other small children, police said. All told, police said, the 4-month-old child was alone in the car for about 15 minutes.

I wonder if this is typical behavior in UK...when we were on one of the Spanish islands (there were so many British tourists) and we saw 2 cars with babies/toddlers in them...windows rolled up

granted one of them I was so horrified I couldn't stop talking about it at my seat at a cafe (where the car was) and the guy got up and went over the car and let the kid out ( I guess he overheard me )

I've heard of European folks doing this.
If they want to go into a bar they'll leave their children outside so they wont have to deal with the smoke. But normally they never get out of 'sight' of their children.

I've heard about it too although I always thought it was the person who was an idiot and not a trend.

That's horrifying. I mean she's FOUR MONTHS OLD. Alone. In a car. Which can be broken into. Don't people care about their kids anymore????
