What is wrong with people...sorry - long

What is wrong with people...sorry - long

We were unable to invite FH's work people with spouses because there were just too many and we can't afford it. So yesterday, someone overhears him saying to a friend that we had more no's than we thought. She and several others actually had the nerve to ask that they be able to bring their spouse since we have no's. We tried to explain that we couldn't afford all and didn't want to have to be put in a position of picking and choosing who does get to bring a spouse. Well, anyway...we ended up telling 8 of them that they could bring spouses, but we needed a yes or no by first thing this morning - my final count is due in 15 minutes! Needless to say - only half of them have answered and he has spent his entire morning tracking them down!!

And then!...a family member (who also had to be tracked down 5 days after responses were due) said she was not bringing a date and then called last night and said she is! Meanwhile - all of the seating and the placecards are done and now have to be re-done!

Is this rude or am I being a bridezilla??

I don't think your being a Bridezilla. I think its rude when people ask to bring someone when their invite does't say and guest. It's a wedding not a casual get together at your house. A lot of planning has to go into it. Hope everything works out for you.

it's rude....but if it makes you feel any better, it happens to pretty much everyone.

i had to track someone down by certified mail because they responded and said that they would bring, '4, maybe 3, maybe 2 people, don't worry about us'. um, i'm sorry, but i'm not worried about you, i'm worried about me...

eta: it'll all work out in the end - i promise!

Tell her it is too late to bring a date, that the final payment has been made and there is nothing that can be changed.

we had a few issues, but nothing like yours! We had one friend who sat on our invite for 2 months, ignored the deadline, and we kept asking for an answer and she kept saying 'maybe.' (She was married last year so this really baffled us!). Finally she said no because of other plans, which we take to mean that something else better came along...

I would NEVER ask if I could bring my spouse if I was invited without bc that is rude. If I felt uncomfortable going without my DH (which I would) I would simply decline my invite. You are the bride and groom you do the inviting...based on that guests decide to attend or decline...not invite their own guests!

... what planet are some people from?!!?

to the OP, if i had given a deadline, i certainly wouldnt be tracking people down for answers... if and when they came to me, i would tell em, sorry, its too late, your loss... you are def waaaaay too nice...

i originally invited friends with guests by word of mouth but then had to take it back bc the room is going to be overcrowded... when i said this to a friend (in the bp mind you), she tells me oooh really? bc i was going to bring my friend (who i met once in my life...) why do you NEEED to bring a guest, you know a ton of friends at my wedding, but you want me to pay for an additional plate just so you can bring someone? i dont think so lol

three people came....it was fine - i was happy to have everyone come (i had a big wedding - my final count was 292), but it was just annoying because of the seating issue.

Thank you ladies! Every time I think about what's been going on the last 2 days I get all fired up! This is terrible for anyone to have to put up with, but it's nice to know i'm not the only one that it has happened to and that I'm not being a bridezilla.

you are def not a bridezilla, its the rudest thing ever when ppl assume its a freakin free for all with inviting guests at their own discretion. if someone tries that sh*t on me i'll flipppp. if you were invited with a guest it would have said it right there on the ENVELOPE!! And if someone screws up my seating arrangements with guest/no guest/coming/not coming, they can sit outside and i will have someone bring them a plate.
