Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

Growing up, my family had a couple of Irish Setters. They are beautiful dogs...loyal, devoted, friendly to a fault. I'd consider getting one of my own. They have lots of energy and need to be run often.

After the setters, we had a Newfi! She was the most awesome pooch-all 170 pounds of her. She was just a big, furry mush of love!! The downside is that they are a messy breed-shed like crazy and drooooool. I definitely would like one!

My dog is mutt, and I would definately adopt another mutt.

Edited to add: but I do really want a Wheaten Terrier!

Danielle has 2 yorkies and they are very lovable dogs. I would get one in the future, and I want to take one of her dogs now...Buddy, he is adorable. If I did get a yorkie in the future, it would be a female though. Both her dogs are male.

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

My avatar is my 3rd, a 3 year old black lab mix, but before her I had 2 other mutts, they were shepherd mixes. All are/have been great dogs and all came from shelters. If I could I'd get another....

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Named Abbey.

Who is the cutest damn thing you've ever seen......but honestly quite difficult to deal with. She's my little budgie and I love her, but I find that she's difficult to train.. Particulary housebreaking. She's very spiteful.

But maybe she's just a puppy....I would get the breed again because she is fantastic with kids. I always get freaked out by other kinds of dogs around kids. Maybe it's cause she's small that I feel more comfy. If I could POST PICS I would show her to you....

I'll give it a shot but it will never work....

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

I've had two dogs so far.

My first dog (when I was growing up) was a Shetland Sheepdog. They look like little collies. She was AMAZINGLY smart, very very intelligent animal but...she was very high strung and kind of a loner, which is common in the breed. She barked ALL the time, and we could barely ever have company without it being a problem. She would bark from the minute someone knocked on the door, until the minute they left, even if they stayed for a few days!!! It was bad. So while she had some great qualities, I wouldn't get another one.

The dog I got after that (and still have), is a Pomeranian. All I can say is WOW! What a fabulous dog. She is smart, loving, obedient, friendly, loyal, has an amazing spirit, even a good watch dog but knows to stop barking when she's told or when she finally gets to sniff the visitor's feet. She's never snappy or nasty like some other small dogs can be. Although she doesn't like small children much. She's small and doesn't eat much. She's even paper trained, so I don't have to walk her!!

The only problem is that her coat is VERY high maintenance and requires a LOT of brushing or it will mat right down to the skin. Right now I have her cut into a puppy cut which is much easier to keep on top of.

I would absolutely without a doubt get another Pomeranian. The only thing that would make me think twice would be the high maintenance coat.

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

Growing up we always had German Shepards. The are the most loyal dogs, my parents had a huge one named King when my brother and I were small, he was so intelligent and protective. People used to ring my mothers doorbell and offer her cash for him. Very sad when he died.

I love GS but DH is not used to big dogs he grew up with Chihuhaha (however you spell it lol) so getting a big dog like that is out of the question (for now) We would like to have a pug.

(Once we have a baby I'm def going to get a german shepard whether he likes it or not )

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

I have a black lab, Onyx. He is the best dog, very smart and friendly. He is a huge lovebug, thinks he is a puppy even though he is 100lbs. He has a lot of energy though, and is a big baby-when he wants a walk, he stands there and barks until he gets his way DH and I are planning on getting another yellow lab once we move into the new house.

Here is a pic of my bad baby, sneaky on the bed (hes not allowed on there-you can see how well my DH disciplined him)

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

We have a 4 1/2 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. She's awesome, but definately not a beginner's dog. She's not that easily trained, the females tend to be very stubborn and independent. Thick headed as she is though, she's amazingly intelligent. We had her housebroken by 2 1/2 months. She's pretty hyper, but no more or less than any pup. The males tend to be a bit more mellow. The breed as a whole is known to be energetic when they're outdoors (they need A LOT of excercise) but couch potatoes inside Which is pretty accurate. She's a huge cuddler.) Guard dogs by nature and excellent with children.

We plan on breeding her and I want another one (male) but I'm not sure if that'll pan out now that I have a baby on the way. Training her takes a lot of work which I'm not sure I'll have the time for by the time we get around to having a litter.

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

I have 3 cats now, but when we have a house I want a COCKAPOO!! (Cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle).

Of course my DH doesn't want one, he thinks they're not 'manly' enough. But we'll see

Re: What kind of dog do you have? And would you get the same or a different breed?

We have a Coton de Tulear and I love her. They are similar to Bichons but not quite the same. She doesn't shed at all which is nice and she is so much fun. It is a rare breed and we had to wait 9 months on a list to get one. She came from California. I can't upload pics because they are too big but here is a link to the breeder Maison Cotons

Here is a pic when she was a puppy, in the third picture down, she is the one in the middle: My baby
