What kind of gift do you give for a one year bday party

We have a one year old bday party to go to, friends of ours. What do you usually give as a gift?

Baby probably already has tons of clothes and toys. The best gift we recieved was a GC to Toys R US, this way just in case there is something the baby didn't get, Mommy and Daddy can pick it up. If not it can always be used for diapers, wipes, baby food, etc... Gives the parents a break for a little bit!!!!

I bought DH's cousin's baby a gift from Things Remembered - it was a growth chart that hangs on the wall to measure the child's height has he/she grows

I usually buy my friends kids clothing. You can always use that

Normally we give a savings bond or something in that order.

I have a friend who received coke stock for her 1st b-day. She used to get dividends every once in a while of like $1.25 or 2.30 something very small but over 30 years I am sure she has made some money on it with out even trying.

FH got ibm stock for his Bar mitzvah 15 years ago. I think it was only like 1 or 2 shares but it has split like 5 or 6 times in the past 15 yrs.

Things like that they will never forget and will have when they get older.
And it really dosnt have to be that expensive.

I love to give books, no one has ever not wanted books for their child. Include a gift receipt in case there is a duplicate of something they already have in their library.

I gave my godchild one share of stock in Disney. It came unfolded and I had it framed with a little plaque on the bottom that read:

GODCHILD's NAME
DATE
Your little piece of the Kingdom (or something like that)

Everyone loved it! It will appreciate in value as time goes on, like savings bonds, and she gets a yearly stockholder's update.
