What kind of responsibilities can I delegate to FMIL?

My FMIL really wants to help with the wedding. I'd love her help, but I just don't know what kind of jobs to give her. She lives in Colorado, and will probably only come to NY once before the wedding. I try to keep her in the loop & she is in charge of guest/hotel baskets, but I can't think of what else to ask her to do. Most of the time it just seems easier to do something myself than to delegate.

I definitely know how you feel. I felt that way too planning my wedding. Most of my ideas will be for the day of.
Some possibilities;

Handing out programs (if your doing)

Handing out what you toss (rice,bubbles)

If she is going to be with you the AM of your wedding she can be in charge of making or getting breakfast.(very important that you eat!)

If you have corsages(sp?) or bouts for people at the church,(godparents, readers) she could give them the flowers.(you'll be hiding in the limo 'till it starts )

I had heavy favors and my MIL came to the catering hall with me to help me carry all the stuff!!

If she has nice handwriting, she can write out the placecards(what a chore!!) and put them in alphabetical order (caterer will ask for this to be done)

Also, ask you MOH to include her a lot on the bridal shower plans...ask her to do research on something (eve if you don't use what she finds...it will give her something to do and include her) Ask her to pick rd invitations (if you are having one)

The only thing I'm having FMIL is buy her dress. And the other is for the Wedding Day - to meet and greet and be the graceful woman that she is, and to enjoy herself

My FMIL lives in LI and has been an absolute godsend with the wedding planning. Since your FMIL is out of the area, maybe she can research types of floral centerpieces if you haven't dealt with flowers yet. It seems like there may not be much to do now since she's far away, but when the wedding arrives, there will be a ton of pre-wedding stuff to do. I would definitely include her then because you will need all the help and she seems very willing to do it!

I had FMIL help me pick out my dress, and I am going w/ her for her dress. I just really try to keep her informed of our progress and she seems to enjoy that.
