What little things...

are you doing to save money for the wedding?

I've actually been using cash more and more so I can make it a point to have singles to put in the coffee can (which is glued shut with rubber cement and had a tiny slit) at the end of the day along with putting the coin change into our thingy that my mom bought us and put like $30 bucks in change to start with... now we're up to almost $160 since christmas!!

also... Ive been using the bottle returns!! With the amount of bottled waters and powerade zeros i drink... there is so much money to be had!!

What are you ladies doing?

Everytime I have a five dollar bill I put it in my secret money hiding spot. Plus I have this large piggy bank I've had since I was a kid. Anytime I have change it goes in there.

Everytime I get paid the first thing I do is put away money. 'Pay myself first' as mom would say! I NEVER touch this money unless it's for the wedding.

Also, everytime I got to purchase something I stop and ask myself if it's worth it...and I try to think about what else I could put that money towards.

Katie, I'm actually doing the exact opposite. I put everything that doesn't go toward bills into the bank. Because I am so used to having cash on me at all times, I usually don't even bring my bank card with me, so I never spend the money that goes into my account!

I also collect my change. It may only cover one person's plate, but it's still something!

Its true! I have enough in that little change jar for almost 4 vendor plates or almost 2 guests! lol

Stacey, I actually NEVER carry cash because my paycheck is directly deposited into my account... so as soon as my check hits I move money around and then take out my 'allowance' for the next two weeks, pay my bills and then the rest stays in my savings account. Even though if I really wanted to I could move the money out of my savings... they only let you do it so many times through online banking and I hate actually going to the bank to make a withdrawal.. so my laziness also helps me save money.

I've also been couponing!!

FH and I found something on Mint.com. Starting the first Sunday of the year, we put the amount of money that the number of the week is ex: 1st week of 2013 $1 each, 2nd week 2 dollars. I think in the end, it will wind up being over 1500? I don't know if that's each or together. It's just something small and easy that we've actually been REALLY disciplined with!!

I've been collecting change since 6th grade for my wedding. Corny, I know but I've kept up with it!

Coupon clipping! I'm not as good as those crazy's on Extreme Couponing, but it does help.

I also get X amount directly deposited into our wedding account. I don't see it so it's not like I'm missing it.

And lastly (the worst one) I only go clothing shopping once every OTHER month. This is torture for me!!!!

I have been saving my singles forever. (normally I would use them for spending money on vacations) Since October, I currently have over $550 :) I also save all my change. Quarters in one jar and the other change in another.

To add to that I hardly shop anymore. Its so sad. I told myself I am not going to buy any summer clothes this year. I can make it through one season. (i hope)

Since Christmas I have really stepped up my savings game! lol The more I see the bank account go up the better I get at it. I love seeing it increase! lol

Fh and a piggy bank for change (its actually a ct) and a have a tin for dollars. At the end of the week we take our singles or any extra money we put in the tin and the change in the kitty bank. When the kitty bank gets full we take the money and go to the bank with it and deposit it into our wedding savings account. We have Bethpage and they have a coin star kind of machine right in the bank but it doesn't deduct anything from the amount and you can put it right into your account you want. We also take the money from the tin when it gets to like 20 or more and put it in the account so it can earn some interest. We have emptied out the kitty bank and tin several times since we started and probably have gotten a few hundred dollars out of doing this. We set aside a certain amount to go into our account once a month. We both scaled back shopping a huge amount grocery shopping ect. I cut coupons. I look for deals. I am not an extreme shopper ( I kind of think it is a little impossible when you live in NY) But I do cut coupons and look for things on sale when we do buy things. Any extra money we get birthday, gifts, ect go right into the account as well.

I'm a huge couponer!!! I haven't had to pay for any shampoo, conditioner, razors, lotion, body wash or toothpaste for almost a year now. It may not seem like a lot when you're buying as you go, but te fact that I never need to run out and spend the extra $10 is not only more convenient, but saves a ton of $!

Coupons for sure!

We brown bag lunch every day now (since December), and so each week we take the amount we would have spent and add that to our savings. We also budgeted wedding money into our monthly budget just like a bill, so we sit down and we pay rent, cell bill, cable bill, wedding bill lol.

That money we put away, and we've made a lot of payments already just so It's not sitting around and tempting us lol.

But including it as a 'Bill' just like other monthly expenses is whats helped us the most so far.

We do the wedding bill too. Every time we get paid we put a couple hundred each into that account. We've been able to save $1,000 a month (had a set back or two) pretty much every month doing that. It's helped A LOT!

We both have direct deposit for our paychecks, our own checking accounts, then a joint checking and savings account. Every Friday 'x' amount of money is transferred into our savings account. Then every 2nd Friday after we get paid a big chunk is transferred from our own checking accounts into our rent account which is used for rent, bills, groceries, etc. The transfers are all done automatically so we can't say 'we don't have the money this week'. We've been able to put away quite a lot since Christmas and hope to increase the savings transfer amount soon!

we have been bringing out lunch (FH always did- i went out daily for lunch with one of my closest friends lol) but near my job they just build a new trail so i have been walking at lunch instead of going out to eat- saving money and getting slim! ahahha we also stopped eating out- we used to spend like $150 a weekend on dinner, so we made a $50 weekend budget to eat out. He also loves dunkin donuts and was spending like $30 a week on coffee so he cut that out as well..
FH also smokes so hes really been trying to cut down on cigarettes to save money (and obviously be healthy)
I have really been trying to track my spending and get it under control. I normally just buy whatever I want whenever so I'm definitely trying to keep only money in my account to pay bills and then stash cash in an envelope.

hopefully all we have been doing is enough!!
