What NOT to do when you register.....
DON'T BRING YOUR MOTHER AND MIL!!!!
OMG, the experience I had last night was one for the books, I tell ya!!
My MIL was down for a couple of days, so on Sunday night Joe tells her 'why don't you go with Debbie tomorrow night to do some registering at BRU' and I'm sitting there like
!!! We had started registering ourselves and have been doing it in dribs and drabs because I run out of patience and Joe goes zap happy, but I digress....
When we went downstairs to our apt, I turned to him and said 'you know, you put me in an awkward position because I didn't even ask my own mother to go with me, so how am I going to go w/your mother and not with mine?' and the answer to that was, 'go with both'!!!! Easier said then done. I said to him 'oh yeah, so they can both drive me crazy' and he said 'now you'll know what I feel like shopping with you!!'
The nerve!
I call my mother and ask her and she's all excited, so how can I say no, right? And being the ever-dutiful daughter and DIL that I am, I bring them last night.
Two words -- NEVER AGAIN. Every single thing was 'oh I don't like that' or 'not for my grandchild' -- from lamps to strollers to sheets to towels, you name it, they didn't like it. If it wasn't the color, it was the style, if it wasn't that, it was this and on and on..... Actually, my mother was more quiet about the whole thing because she knows my taste and hers is different and knows when to keep quiet -- or at least whisper so I don't hear her. My MIL, on the other hand, doesn't. She just tells me that I'm fussy. Hello, it's not fussy, it's my taste, which is much different then yours. Then the two of them start laughing and telling me I'm a pain in the a$$ because I'm so fussy.
Oh and then I had to hear 'when Joe was little we had this' or 'when Debbie was a baby we had that' -- HELLO, WE WERE BABIES THIRTY FRIGGIN ODD YEARS AGO!!!! Do you NOT think things have changed just a bit since then?????????
Well, I finally got wise and handed them the gun and said 'go have fun' and with that they went bezerk in the blanket/towel/onesie section and zapped away. I have no clue what they picked, nor did I care at that point. All I know is that I have 24 receiving blankets on my registry!!!!!!!! ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR EVER LOVING MINDS!!!!!!
What do they think I'm having? Octoplets (sp)?????
Don't get me wrong, I love them both dearly and I totally appreciate everything they do for me and I totally understand how excited my MIL is about her first grandchild and my mother's excitement about her second, but hello, I'M THE MOTHER AND IT'S MY CHILD -- do you think I won't make a good decision based on that? Is it that the grandmother is the only one to make the right decision?????????
I left there with a headache, which I still have by the way. Joe was hysterical laughing when I was telling him and I said 'sure laugh, you weren't there'!!! Today when I was trying to tell him, he was getting a bit defensive because he thinks I'm saying something against his mother -- I'm not, I'm just trying to make everyone see that I'm the baby holder here and my feelings should be counting for something.
My sister was hysterical when I was telling her and I'm sure you'll be laughing too, and it was quite comical I guess, but at the time, I was ready to leave them there!!!!!! I know I'm majorly hormonal these days, but lately they are working my every last nerve (in a loving way of course
)!!!!!!!!
I thought going w/Joe was a big fiasco, but I'll take him anyday since I can work on him -- there's no way to work over 2 crazed grandmothers-to-be!!!!
To all my expecting mommies-to-be, consider yourselves forewarned!!!!!![]()
