What PG and 1st year books or magazines are you reading?

I was just reading some truly TERRIFYING posts over on the parenting board at the knot about how some new moms are just having a miserable time with their newborns and so, of course, now I'm freaking out (again).

How the babies never stop crying, can't put them down for even a second, haven't gotten out of the house in months, husbands are no help, no sleep, etc etc.

Anyway... I just want to be as prepared as possible. I figure the more I know, the better off I'll be so now I'm seriously considering soaking up any and all baby's first year literature thats worthy out there...starting now. As if I wasn't already scared from what people have been telling me, now I'm positively petrified.

Any recommendations for good books on newborns, the first year, stuff like that? Are you reading anything like that now?

well if you got what to expect when expecting, you should also get what to expect: the first year. don't worry about it, books sometimes exaggerate. You will know, that motherly instinct will kick in.

I also would love to know what others are reading... but I just wanted to say one thing...

DON'T let others scare you!! All babies are different!!!

Honestly, I think the ultimate BEST source is one's mom.

However, my mom is a pain sometimes, so I've gotten a couple of books that have been VERY helpful (I randomly look up things I'm experiencing, and EVERYTHING is covered):

*What to Expect When You're Expecting
*What to Expect the 1st year
*And there's a 3rd book, I'll get this week that shows images, and a thorough explanation thru weeks/months of progress.

This is the 3rd book I was referring to: Pregnancy & Birth: Your Questions Answered.
I skimmed through this book, and it was VERY informative... I'm picking this up this week.

i am currently reading 'The happiest Baby on the Block'
http://www.thehappiestbaby.com/

I have no idea if anyone can vouch for it but it seems great. It talks about the 1st 3 months being the baby's 4th trimester. And how to soothe the baby. I am truly hoping this stuff works.

Someone also recommended to me to read 'Babywise'. Heard it was kind of controversial (about putting the baby on a schedule) but i thought it would be interesting to check out.
