What questions should I ask vendors of bridal gowns?
I am getting ready to try on some gowns! This is all I have been waiting for even though I have a while before the wedding. Are ther any questions I should be asking?

Hi: I don't have any suggestions, because I am also getting married in 2004 and have not gone to try anything on yet. But I just wanted to say that I'm excited for you!
I'm dying to go try on dresses, but am soooo afraid that I'll fall in love with something now, buy it and end up liking something better next year.
I may go this summer when I have time, but I've made a promise to myself that I will not buy anything till next year
Good Luck and let me know how it went! Where are you going?

Re: What questions should I ask vendors of bridal gowns?
I just wrote a long message and I forgot to log in! What a pain, I have to get used to this new site now. So I am going to visit RK Bridal, Lillette's and Commack Wedding Center. I have a pic of a gown that I am in love with but a couple of these places carry the designer but not the gown so I have to hunt down for that. I also checked out for price quotes on netbride.com and pearlsplace.com. These were the cheapest. But I don't know if I feel comfortable ordering online for my gown but I have heard nothing but great things about the two-unless someone has negative feedback?? Have fun planning and enjoy the engagement as much as you can. I love it and can't wait to start full force in the planning. What date is your wedding?

I just made the same mistake with logging in. ARGH! How annoying...
So here is a shorter version of my response:
1. Ask about alteration costs and whether or not there is a cap -- many stores treat this differently.
2. Ask when the tailor is available for your fittings. At some stores the times are very limited.

What do you do if there is a gown you are looking to try on and no one has it in the store? Would they order one in for you to try it on or do you have to purchse it either way?

Some stores will be able to borrow samples so that you can try it on even if they don't usually carry it. It takes time though, and some calling around -- but well worth it imho. I can't see buying a dress without trying it on, considering how many dresses I LOVED on the rack, that looked just terrible on me!

Hi Cw0904: We're getting married May 16, 2004. I can't wait to get into the full force planning either. I get so excited sometimes and just want to do something, but I remind myself that we have 2 years to go!! My Future in laws are giving us a huge engagement party (way tooo big for my taste-but my FH is Greek and engagements are a really big deal in his culture) in October, so we're probably going to start booking vendors in November or December-we already have the reception hall and church. Have you booked any vendors?
Anyway, I hope you find the dress that you're in love with and let me know how it goes at those places because those are the places where I'm thinking of going.

Congratulations!!! I am 3/5/2004. I like you cannot wait to begin. We booked the hall and spoke with my priest so everything else needs to be worked on. I bought the table card frames because I saw some I loved and me and FH just decided to get them b/c they wouldn't be around when we needed to buy them. Just remember its never too early to start looking for vendors. You may be able to get a cheaper rate b/c you would be booking so far in advance. We are planning on having an engagement party this summer. But for not the next big step for me is having our parents meet! I will be going to RK bridal in a couple of weeks so I will give an update on my experience. I am glad to know I am not the only soul getting married in 2004! It will be a great year for me and you :)

I am 2004 too! I don't have a date or place yet. I have been looking and want June. But not sure. People tell me I have so much time but I want to book a place and have a date so bad. Congrats!

Re: gabmo4
It wouldn't hurt to start looking for a reception hall because mine is already booking for 2005. And on the first visit we had one date we chose was 3/20 something and when we went back to sign the contract, it was already booked! So we just got moved up a couple of weeks which is perfect for me. Did you start looking?

Re: gabmo4
Gabmo4: Yeah I agree with CW0904, you should start looking now. I booked my hall exactly one month after we got engaged. We ended up getting 2003 prices instead of 2004. The prices go up every year. Good Luck!

Re: What questions should I ask vendors of bridal gowns?
We got engaged 4/28/01 and our wedding date is 7/4/03. We booked our hall and church about a month or two after we got engaged. We booked the photographer in the fall and the DJ in March.
I too can't wait to start trying on dresses. I'm going to start looking in June/July and hopefully find something by the end of the summer. Once I find mine, I will start looking at BM dresses and hopefully have theirs wrapped up in the fall.
I've herad nothing about good things about Lillette's in Baldwin. I think I'm going there first.
Lots of luck to you! Karen

Re: What questions should I ask vendors of bridal gowns?
My girlfriend is getting her gown at Lillette's and I can't remember her name right now but she was great with her. She wasn't pushy and took her time with my friend. I actually tried on some dresses Saturday without my mom there and it felt so weird. I will have to wait till she gets back from vacation to decide when I am ready.
