What Really Happens When You're In Vegas

Original post by October Bliss

Your office plans a SURPRISE bridal shower!!

Yesterday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a work shower that was planned while FH & I were in Vegas at the National Pool Tournament. And totally shocked and surprised I might add. I had NO clue this was being planned, and in fact if anyone had asked I would have said that my office would not throw me a shower.

The decorating and getting all the food together (hot food, mind you) in the office library/conference room (which is directly opposite MY office) was done in what I am told is 1/2 hour! My supervisor kept my in her office for two hours with the door closed to review cases so I have no idea how long they actually spent. I was also told that every time I left my supervisor's office to get a file she would then call the switchboard to warn everyone I was coming down the hall, and that a fellow attorney was following me everytime I walked anywhere yesterday! I never noticed her, at all! BRIDE BRAIN!

The shower had an Italian theme (since that is part of our HM plans). The invite was adorable and read as follows:

On the outside: Here Comes the Bride, all Dressed in White (complete with a pic of a bride)

On the inside:
We're planning a bridal shower for Darlene, Wednesday, Sept 13th, 2:00PM Theme: 'That's Amore'

Darlene and her soon to be husband will be going to Italy for their honeymoon, so we decided to do an Italian theme shower. (complete with a pic of a wedding cake)

'We are asking people to contribute a mere $ towards the festivities. For a merea $ you willa getta plenty of Italian food mada by your nica Italian colleagues. If you woulda like to maka something, please a let Caterina or Maria know. We are also taking a contribution for a gifta, We hopa you willa come. Also, it's a surprisa so shadduppa you faca and mangia!' (complete with a pic of Venice and spaghetti on a fork)

The lovely ladies I work with COOKED!! Lasagna, meatballs, rigatoni a la vodka, tortellini, italian bread, antipasto!! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CP's on the tables were a ring of silk flowers with a HUGE bottle of wine in the middle. One of my colleagues brought in a HUGE wicker chair from her patio that they decorated with silk flowers for me to sit in.

They even managed to get FH to my office!!!

The cake was decorated by another colleague!!

And they made sure we practiced!!

The mastermind behind the entire event wrote (and read) the following poem entitled The Love Story of Darlene & Jay:

'She met him one night, and thought he was cool. They flirted with each other while playing pool. They dated for a short time and she knew that this was it. It was then that Jay realized they are the perfect fit. So shopping for a ring and her hand he would take, He asked her to marry him when she met him for lunch break. It's been about a year of planning the perfect wedding. Where will it be? Whayt type of table setting? Lists upon lists on every wedding site, meeting with the planner almost each and every night, But now the end is near and we have one thing to say, don't worry Darlene, you'll have the perfect day. For no matter what goes wrong, there's still one thing that's true - You're in love with Jay, and he's in love with you!'

In keeping with the Italian theme, the crew bought us a pocket size Italian/English dictionary. They also got us a gift card to one of the stores we registered at.

I have to give a shout out to With All My Heart. One of the ladies in my office runs the Commack annex of WAMH, and she is responsible for the tiara, veil, and ALL the silk flowers!!!!
