What should be in contract when signing for reception site?

I think I may be going to book a place for my reception, and just want to make sure everything is written in the contract that should be. Do any of you have any suggestions of things that should be in the contract, that maybe I am not aware of? Thanks. :)

Anything you absolutely want. If it is not in the contract don't count on a handshake to ensure something is there ie if you want shrimp coctail at the coctail hour make sure the price and food item are listed on the contract. Basics: Cost per person, Tax and tip Courses and what they include Times and cost of overtime. Start and finish time. Table lines and if flowers or any extras are included. Cake Picture location availability. Basically everything you stated verbally make sure it is written down. Good luck.

Most service contracts like the one that the reception hall will hand you, are standard form contracts. You should read the whole thing and ask questions about anything that you don`t understand. Even if you think it might be a stupid question. When I booked the Hamlet I didn`t understand the provision that all vendors must have insurance and I asked about that. It turns out it is like malpractice insurance for doctors and lawyers, everyone has to have it! Probably in some eyes a dumb question, but I wouldn`t sign until I understood all of it! If you negotiate a good price that differs from their norm, or they agree to substitute something for you, ask them to write that on the contract and intital it. That way you don`t have to worry about trying to prove that someone said something other than what is reflected in the contract. For the most part though it is a form contract that doesn`t differ much from bride to bride and unless you request and are promised something unusual, you don`t need to worry about it. Becky

We made sure on ours that it stated the rate for vendors and children. The credit we would get per table if we don't use the house florist for the centerpieces. We really liked the menu that they had when we signed the contract, so we had written in that we can choose the menu as presented to us OR if they change the menu in the meantime we can choose off the new menu. Oh, and since we weren't going to get to taste the food until 2 months after we signed the contract, we asked them to write in that we would get our FULL deposit back if we didn't like the food at that time. (But it was really good!) Good luck!
