My aunt called me tonight. She told me my cousin got engaged to a a guy in the canadian army that is leaving for Afganistan on Monday and she is having a small engagement/farewell/come back home safe party for them Thursday.
My cousin has been married before but i dont think her FI has been. Should I bring them something other than a card when we go for dinner??

I second the frame. We got a lot of vases for our engagement which sit in the closet right now, but a nice glass or silverplate frame would be appropriate.

go with the frame - my brother has been in kuwait/iraq since february and the pictures we have scattered around the house are incredibly helpful! or maybe a gift certificate for dinner when he returns...give them something to look forward to!

I don't think it matters if they didn't get you anything for your engagement. If you are having dinner with them and want to get them something for their engagement, I think its very thoughtful.

i dont' think it matters tht they didn't get you anything - especially considering the circumstances! get them a little something - it's the thought that counts!

i like the idea of getting them a frame... you said they didnt get you a gift, you dont have to spend much on a frame... they are as low as $5 or $10 if you like...

What about a journal for him to document what goes on while he's away and a box of stationary for her so she can write him letters?
