what should i do

my mom called and told me her house is going to be getting worked on this year so we cant have the backyard engagement party there...she told me outback would open early and have a luncheon type thing for us...but its wayy more than what we wanted to pay...she told me she would pay the difference....but i feel bad having her do that....should i just forget having the engagment party all together...

Look into other resturants. you could totally do a brunch or lunch for cheap.

I think u should NOT forget about it if u really want it...
My FH and I really want it BUT we dont have a house... nor a big budget... so we will have it at Eisenhower Park! :) So we can cut budget! :)

Jay - 15 PP isn't that bad at all. We ran into a similar problem. we are doing ours @ Capt bills as a Brunch on a sunday. I think it was $25pp. we have the same problem as far as BIG families! so we were trying to find a nice place for a small price.
where are you looking...

ETA - oh - outback.. nevermind! lol that's not too bad of a price.

Def don't give up on one! You'll always regret not having it if you really wanted one. I'm sure there are better options for you if you don't want to do that to your Mom. Why don't you see about having it at a bar or another restaurant that's maybe cheaper? Or perhaps asking someone else if you could use their backyard?? Hope it works out for you!!

maybe look into other restaurants that are a little less $$. If you want to stay with the more casual backyard party-maybe a public park?? Good luck! Sorry

Don't give up on it...I regret not having one....like everyday.... now I've been engaged almost a year and I think it's too late for us...

You should still do it! Etiquette says you can, and who cares anyway!

You might want to just limit it to immediate family (first cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, grandparents). Not sure if that's who you were including when you said 80, but i know my immediate family is 30 people so even doing our e-party in this way is going to be 60-70 people.

we're having ours at Dao in Huntington - they're charging us $22pp but they're giving us unlimited soda - no alcohol included. That was the cheapest place i could find. You might want to look into diners near your house? sometimes they have back rooms...
