My fiance's parents want to throw us an engagement pary in thier backyard. My family and I had no interest in having one, but they are insisting. I also made it clear to my FH that I didn't want one. Should I offer to help out or get things for the party? FH and I are strapped between our house and the wedding, but I feel rude if we or my parents don't offer to pay or do something? Am I suppose to help out??

If they want to throw the party, I think it's up to them to finance it, especially with how you feel about it. I would let them handle everything. The party is for you to enjoy anyway.

Make it clear to them that you totally appreciate it but that you cant help fund it and offer to help with other things (setting up, making phone calls, favors etc)

Trust me, I feel your pain. I never even heard of an engagement party before we got engaged. (I'm not from the area and these things don't happen upstate) We ended up having one and it was the best! Both sides of the family got to meet each other.
We paid for the whole thing, but got more than that back in money and presents, but that's not the point. If they want to throw one, let them. But help set up and see what you can do to help. It's really fun.

My inlaws are throwing our E-party. I know my parents cant financially help since they have already over exteded themselves with the wedding. I just made sure that my mom thanked them for the party. I can financially help either so i'm just helping the day prior and day of.
