a little background: i work right under/for the president of a small company. it will be four years in oct. i cant stand working here but the money is good. i am starting my masters this summer so i need to keep this job.
anyway I DONT WANT TO INVITE MY BOSS. i dont want to see his face at my wedding. i know he would give me a very nice amount of money for my wedding gift but i would really rather not have him there than have the money. (even though i need it bad)... sometimes he's nice but most of the time he's just a jerk, like he'll call me in my office and tell me something and just hangs up and other really jerk things... so the thought of me and fh being romantic and loving in front of him grosses me out.
do you think it would be awful of me not to invite him... i think he'd get over it... plus i want to finish my masters and be done with this place in two years!!!
TIA!!!!!

Ummm I dont think you have to worry about it. Don't invite him, i am sure he will get over it. Don't feel bad. I am sure he would not invite you to any of his personal parties!

are you inviting other people from the office?
Just make it like it is a small wedding and mostly just family and very very close friends.

Are you inviting anyone else from your office ? If not, then you can get away with not inviting the boss.
Personally I think you should invite your boss, as you pointed out that you work quite closely with him and for him. He may be a jerk at work, but politically it may be correct for you to invite him, especially since you plan on working there for a while. You never know if you may need something from him in the future (a referrence !) and you certainly do not want to offend him.
I am sending invitations to my two bosses. I work for a foreign company and it would be quite insulting to them and a major breach of etiquitte for me not issue an invitation to the boss. Most likely they will not attend, but if they do, that is fine with me.

Well if you do not want to invite him, just tell people at work that you are not inviting anyone from work and if you are to have them keep it a hush, hush.
good luck

I don't see any reason why you should have to invite your boss. Your personal life has nothing to do with your professional life.

his daughter started working with me for a few months but couldnt stand him anymore so she stopped working in the office with me and is now doing something else that doesnt involve him... so, i was going to invite her because i saw her everyday but now i dont see her anymore, so im not inviting anyone else from work then
this is also a foreign company... i was just talking to my mom about it and she said I HAVE to invite him,, grrr. i knew she would say that...

I wouldn't if you don't want to. Make like you are having a small wedding and cannot afford to invite an elaborate amount of people. I know what it is like to want to leave your work AT WORK ! No working on your wedding day, or the thought of work, or the people you see DAY IN AND DAY OUT ! It is your day, do as you please !

Listen to your mother. You don't know me, but I've been in the work force for 19 years since I graduated. You know the saying - never burn your bridges. Trust me I've seen the consquences.
I work for a Japanese company, so etiquitte is a major player in the workforce. Your boss may not even attend. If he does, seat him somewhear in the back, with other less favorite people. Greet him cordially, introduce your new husband, and then enjoy your other guests. If he acts like a jerk at your reception, then it is a bad reflection upon him, not on you !

I completely agree with this. My wedding isn't a social event - it's for friends and family to celebrate my marriage. I would be uncomfortable having coworkers there.

Do not invite him!!!! There is no reason to
My rule for inviting work people was - if I talk to them outside of work, I invited them.
Also - if he is that much of a jerk, he might not even want to be invited!

ITA, I would invite him if he is as much a jerk as you say he is he probably will decline the offer anyway. In addition I highly doubt you will have time to think about him on your wedding day, I think you will greet him if he comes and that will be the last time you think of him for the rest of the night. Listen to your mom.

I'm in the same situation. I'm inviting him. He might not even come. It's better to chance it then burn your bridges. People can get really offended over things like that.
