First and foremost, Im so sorry what happened. Please accept my condolences. As for the reception hall, I would write them a complaint and send it by registered my so you have proof of a signature. If they do not respond, I would call the better business bureau or better yet call one of the news agencies that feature 'get help' specials and see if someone can help you out. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!

I hope that you and your family are doing well! I would definately contact the owner and make sure that he/she knows what the situation is. If you dont get a response I would go down to the hall and demand to speak to the owner. They should do something for you considering you were not there all 7 hours in addition to the $ you should get back for they extra people that you paid for. Good luck!

Im soooo sorry! Did you try going there? Sending a registered return receipt letter of your request seems like the right way to go. Good Luck! I hope you get some satisfaction from them.

I am so sorry for your loss.
1. Call the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. They get in touch with the hall, and keep records of whether or not the issue was resolved, and it goes on a public record.
2. Pull out your contract and read thru the fine print, make copies and highlight exactly where it states that you get refunds for no shows.
3. If you paid by credit card call the company and let them know that there is a dispute taking place and to pull back the payment.
4. Call up pretending to be someone else and find out when the manager will be there and then head down there and cause a huge scene. Big public scenes are really bad for business.
5. If all else fails, figure out what they owe you and see if it's cost effective to hire an attorney for breach of contract or head to small claims court.
Good luck!!!

Again, I'm so sorry for your family's loss. As for the hall, you should definitely call and speak to the owner. If nothing else, they should reimburse you for the 40 no-shows. In addition, if they want to have a good name for themselves, they should reimburse you for the overtime. I'm guessing that the regular 5 hour reception would have been from 6-11 or 7-12. They should reimburse you for whatever extra you paid in overtime. That cost would have gone for extra alcohol and coffee, and was probably in the range of $10-15 pp per hour.

Again, so sorry for you and your family and your loss.

I really think the fact that the hall 1) didn't call first and foremost to see how you were afterwards (good customer service/normal human emotion might dictate this) 2) won't return your calls
is positively disgusting behavior on their part.

No matter what had happened at your wedding, they owe you $$ for your overpaying for $40 people.

If they are decent human beings (as opposed to thoughtless, money-hungry wedding industry *sses) then they would also refund you at least some of your money for the time that you were not able to complete your event.

Again, so sorry. I hope you follow through with this and get some satisfaction.
