What should I give for a gift?

A cousin of mine called two weeks ago to announce she is engaged. She said there will be NO invitiations because the wedding is in two weeks. (So, now the wedding is tomorrow). She is being married at town hall, so there is no ceremony, the reception is at the elks club. I dont know why they chose such a short engagement, but it is hard to find out about a wedding and only have two weeks notice. SO now I dont know what to wear or what to give her as a gift. A lot of the family already had plans so they cant come. My cousin has only been with this guy for several months, we dont even know his last name! Well ladies, I am sure she would prefer money, so what do you suggest?

Re: What should I give for a gift?

How about a nice piece of crystal? It looks so nice and it is not too expensive or a frame for there wedding picture. Or how about a savings bond? I would wear something nice, like you would were to a Sunday brunch just dress it up more. I hope this helps!

Re: What should I give for a gift?

If it were me, I'd give her the same monetary gift that I'd give any other cousin who got married, unless I were especially close to her, in which case it would be more.

Re: What should I give for a gift?

I definitely recommend money, you can't go wrong with that... and as far as dress goes... I would wear a nice pantsuit, or casual cocktail dress (is that an oxy-moron?). Those are things that can kinda go either way... sortof safe.
Good luck, and have fun! (remember not everyone has the same idea of what they want their wedding to be, maybe she met this guy, beleives he is the one, and just doesn't want to wait?)

Re: What should I give for a gift?

Well I dont want to be judgemental, but she has been engaged many a time in her young age of 21. So as a family I guess we have doubts about them. However, I do hope for the best! I really hope they are happy. I guess money is the best way to go, and I will try to give her as much as I can. Thanks for the responses. I didnt mean to sound like I didnt want to give her money.

Re: What should I give for a gift?

I would probably do a gift from Fortunoff - maybe towels or something like that - I guess because with such short notice she isn't having a shower and won't get all those amazing registry types of gifts - And if she still wants $$ she can return them.

Re: What should I give for a gift?

I say money like you would at any wedding.
I am sure at such a young age, they can use it.
