my engagement party is at the end of January ... i'm not sure what to wear. Should i buy something new or wear something i already have? Should i go for a dress, or a skirt and blouse?
I don't want to freeze my buttocks off, but i also want to look good

A new dress is def they way to go. You can always look back at the dress and have wonderful memories.

I haven't bought the dress yet but I want to wear a gown. The way people looked at me when I told them I thought I was the only one ever to wear a gown to their engagement party. I am sooo glad that I read your post I feel better now and not so much of an outcast. lol I figure how many occasions can you really wear a gown and it's my party I can wear what I want.
In regards to the original question....buy something new that is special just for that night and I vote dress!

We had our engagement party during the summer and I found a nice summer dress that was really long. I topped my look off with an orange flower in my hair.

People gave me crazy looks too when I told them that I'm wearing a gown. But then my friend brought up a very good point: At least no one will show up in something similar! You only get one engagement party, so be yourself, and look beautiful!!!

at a restaurant ... only about 50 people will be attending (FH and my immediate families, a small handful of my mom's friends, and the majority is Craig and my friends).
I guess i have some dress shopping to do
