So FI and I are going to a wedding this weekend and the ceremony is in the church. The reception is 3 hours after and is black tie.
I am not really familiar with churches so maybe you guys can help. Do we wear our black tie attire to the church. I feel kinda funny doing this. Since there is such a gap in time i feel like people will change for the reception. I have never been to a church wedding wearing a gown. The problem is the wedding is in Jersey and we dont have a place to change or even go for that matter after the ceremony.
What do you think we should do. I said I would change in the back of our car....its an SUV...kinda big.

Re: What should we wear to the church?????
you can wear a pretty dress to the church and then change into your formal attire for the reception. there's no reason for you to sit around in your fancy schmancy clothes for three hours waiting for the reception to start. i've seen people even wear jeans to the church when there's a gap in between - not that i'm suggesting this!!!!

Sometimes when there is a long time between the ceremony & the reception, the hosts of the wedding will provide a place for guests to relax, maybe have coffee or soft drinks. If they are doing that, maybe you could change clothes then. Any neat attire would be OK for church, slacks, skirt, it doesn't have to be dressy. Often, guest do not go to the church ceremony at all when it's inconvenient like this, so the hosts like to accomodate.

I went to a wedding like that last year. I wore a nice shirt and pants to the ceremony...went home and took a nap ....then changed for the reception.
