I am registering mostly online and am trying to decide on a cookware set. Found one I like but it only has an 8qt stock pot, and no strainer / steamer insert (for pasta). Is 8 qt big enough? Should I get another one in addition to this one, that comes in a set I like?

Re: What size stock pot??
I've never seen an 8qt...I got a 6 qt and it was a nice size so 8 should be plenty.

Re: What size stock pot??

my set came with an 8qt and then I registered separately for a 12 quart one for all the reasons that you wrote

8 qt is a pretty basic size...but do you have a large family? That will be good for 4-8 people but once you get into 10-12 people you might want to go with 10-12 qt with a pasta insert. Just makes it a lot easier. All clad makes a 12 qt multipot- has a steamer and pasta insert and its about $120. Multipot

I registered for 8 QT and 11QT.
8 Qt is a great size for pasta. 6 qt isn't really considered a stock pot, IMO

12 quart is HUGE. I bought one, and I didnt realize how huge it was until I took it out of the box. You better be cooking lobster for a whole flock of ppl if youre going to use that! 8 quarts is big enough I think.

Thanks for the tip! I am doing all of this online, because I have the time at work, but I plan on going to the store and checking on the things I am unsure of, and to finish up. I thought 12 would be good for lobsters ... too big for two, huh? I wish the set I like came with a pasta insert! I wonder if I buy an insert to fit an 8qt - would it fit any tall 8qt (some are more wide than tall)?
that one is nice, except the set i plan on registering for has an 8qt, so the question is, do i need a 12 qt too? i just wish i could find a nice, hard-adonized set with a pasta insert!!!!! I refuse to register for anything super expensive too.

Re: What size stock pot??
I actually love to cook and my family loves my meatballs and sausage with my own sauce. So I cook it in a 16qt pot so i can freeze the rest and have it another day. My fiance just bought me a 20qt that i absolutely love!!! I dont think its necessary though unless u really cook sauce and stuff. But I would definitely register for an extra 16 qt.

I hate registering.
Just maek sure you take it out of the box and look at the size before you pick it - the one I got was deceiving!

Re: What size stock pot??
I have to see what I have at home now. I have a pasta one that is all burnt on the bottom (I use it to make a mean spinach dip and it burned a little once .... ) and that one I find is a nice size. I could go a bit bigger, even.
