I have requested that the band NOT play the Electric Slide or Macarana (sp?). I also hate doing Congo lines so I have asked them not to do that either. There is also a few sad songs that I am going to ask them not to play.
How about you?

We also requested no chicken dance or electric slide. We hate those. But we told DJ if he gets people requesting them,he can do it but count us out on those dances.

We're doing the same as Novemberbride, having a 'Do not play' list, but if someone requests songs from that list, to go ahead and play it. I don't think we want Macarena or YMCA, conga line songs, etc. but who knows, someone might request them.

In addition to all of the line dances already mentioned by other brides, we nixed all boy bands, Britney, techno, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Gloria Estefan, as well as Old Time Rock and Roll, Mony Mony, and New York New York.

I am with JennRenee...I told my DJ upon booking no Britney or boy bands. I have to add Mony Mony (lol).
I think I may allow one line dance..not my style but they are usually a crowd pleaser!
or really anything that has come out in the last 5-10 years...
I'm also going to note our age to the dj...late 20s...and most of the guests are not far behind or older

Do not play list
We will not have songs with cursing, we will not have songs that talk about break up etc. No hip hop, no britney no insync, none of those...I will definitely do the Electric slide, I think our day would not be complete if we did not do a group dance song where everyone can get on the floor.

Defintely not having:
Hokey Pokey
Hands Up
Conga Lines
Macarena
I Will Survive
No Britney, No teenage boys bands
We told the DJ that only me and my fiancee are the only ones allowed to give requests. If guests want a certain song it has to get approved by us first.

am i a freak?
I like alot of these songs they just spell wedding to me. Group dances are fun to get everyone together I feel. I never see the floor empty when the electric slide comes on and I myself love doing it, I am not into hokey pokey or gloria estefan but the 5 cent 10 cent song is adorable to me, am I the only one? Will my guests hate me if I have them played?

No...
We're doing the Electric Slide, mainly because I love that song at weddings. I've never done it myself, I was an assistant photographer at weddings, and everytime I saw it, everyone was having a great time. Especially after some drinks. We DO NOT want the Macarena. My FI hates that song. For some strange reason, my FI wants the chicken dance. I'll have to be buzzing for that one. LOL. We don't want any boy bands, etc. though. We've never been into that. We're also doing the garter and bouquet toss. My FI can't wait to do the garter. He's mister personality, I'm afraid to think of what he'll come up with. Most people on this board aren't doing the garter or bouquet toss, but to us, it's fun and tradition, and it wouldn't be a wedding without it. Just my opinion. Good luck!

Tara, do what makes you happy!
While I am not a fan of the traditional audience participation songs, my family has there own little dance for Baby Got Back and, while probably not a wedding song, that is a MUST PLAY for me. So is at least one boy band song (not sure if I'll go with NSYNC or play some old school New Kids on the Block) becuase I have four sisters and we have always been boy band freaks! We Are Family - must play because my brother gets such a kick out of 'all my sisters and me' becuase all five of the girls get out there and dance with him.
It should be all about you and the people you care about it. There are some on this board who might think that my must plays are tacky, but for me and my crowd, its all about getting on the dance floor and having a great time. Don't worry so much about these differences of opinion. We all have different tastes and that is okay!
