What time did you guys put on your invitations for the ceremony? The actual time, or earlier?
My wedding starts at 11:30am. I don't know what time to put on the invitations for people to show up. I don't want people to be too early, as we don't have a lot of time for setup, and supposedly our venue says that we shouldn't have guests showing up early anyway. But I'm afraid that if I put 11:30 that people will show up at 11:30, when the ceremony is beginning.
Our rabbi said--and please forgive me with this, it's what he said, not me!--that in his experience, a lot of the Jews (FH's side) will show up at 11:30, and that a lot of my side wlll show up at 11:15. He said to put 11:00 on the invitations. But what if some people show up at 10:45! That's waaay too early. But would 11:15 on a wedding invitation look weird? Who gets married at the quarter hour? Or should I put 11:30 promptly. But that also looks bad, as I don't want people to think I expect them to be late. Or am I just overthinking this??? I need t order the invitations today or tomorrow.

Re: What time on Invitations?
I would probably put 11:00am. When you think about it, 1/2 hr to talk to folks you haven't seen in a while, to have your car parked or perhaps traffic, visiting the restroom, etc is not too long. You'll be OK with 11:00am.

Re: What time on Invitations?
I would put the time it actually starts. If it starts at 11:30, people will gte there a few minutes early. These are adults who have all attended weddings before, I'm sure -- they're not stupid. Just like any other social function when a time is given, people usually show up 10 - 15 minutes early. They know not to show up at exactly 11:30. Not to mention, your ceremony probably wont start exactly on time -- i've NEVER been to a wedding where they started exactly on time. They always run a few minutes late, so I wouldnt worry about your guests showing up a little late.
My advice would be not to under-estimate the social intelligence of your guests and just put 11:30. I'm sure they can figure it out from there.

Re: What time on Invitations?
My ceremony starts at 6:30 and that is what I put on the invite. We probably won't start until about 6:45/7PM anyway. It's a short 30 minute at most ceremony at the RH. The CH starts at 7:30 so we have some time to play with.

Re: What time on Invitations?
I would put the correct time - as someone said people are adults and should know that they should be a few minutes early. I know personally if an invite said 11 but the wedding wasn't supposed to begin at that time I would be very annoyed. It is not proper to lie to your guests because you have a few inconsiderate people who don't know how to show up on time. Sorry if i am being blunt.

Re: What time on Invitations?
I put 6:30 because my mass will start at 6:30. Other that FH being late, this shindig will start at the deignated time. If ppl want to be late then they will miss it.

I do want to put the real starting time. I was thrown by the rabbi telling me to put 11:00, though. I was wondering if this was a common thing, if all brides do that, put an earlier time on their invitations. I really don't want people showing up very early, because then they'll be standing around while the ceremony decorations are being put up.
Argh! This whole wedding thing is so stressful!

Re: What time on Invitations?
My wedding is starting at 2:30 and I am putting 2:30. I went to a wedding over the summer and got there ON TIME, but really I was 30 minutes early and had to sit there and wait. I am always very prompt and I feel as though this should be especially true for a wedding. If you are late . . . too bad, you miss it. My dad's side is always late, but I am making them aware that the wedding will start with or without them because I feel bad for the people who know how to follow directions.

Re: What time on Invitations?
I am getting married at 12:00 PM at my venue and they were the ones that suggested I put 11:30 AM on my invitations to make sure that my guests are there by 12:00PM.

Re: What time on Invitations?
my ceremony starts at 2:30 at a hall and i put 1:45 on the invite because NO ONE on either side of the family can actally read the time!!!!!!!!!! so I know they'll get there by 2:30.
