What to do in this situation? (RD related)

My FMIL wants to have our RD at he house but the house is not big enough for everyone so it would have to be outside, which is fine bc we are getting married in the summer but she doesnt really have a backyard its just a deck which is still not big enough. So I cant turn around and have it at my moms house (bigger backyard) so I thought maybe I could have it at my best friends house which has a nice back yard and she is totally willing. But how do I do this with out insulting FMIL? I want to have it at a place but it doesnt fit our budget. I would still hope that they would help make food and be a part of planning it but how do I do this with out insulting anybody? Its just that the FMIL house is not set up enough for a party and I dont mean to be mean but she will have FH over there everyday cleaning up the place and all.

How do I do this?

Hmmm....does she know how many people are going to be invited to your RD?? Maybe once she hears the number, it'll sink in that her place isn't big enough.

If she already knows---and still insists, I personally would just tell her that your friend has offered up her house for the dinner and you feel that it's A) a better location--more centrally located (maybe a lie, but it's a good excuse)??? B) offers more room for mingling and your bridal party may get a little loud and drunk, so you'd feel more comfortable if they crashed at your friend's place and not FMIL's C) There just isn't enough room and be blunt about it (I've found that being blunt has worked the best in my most recent wedding planning fiascos----putting the truth on the table makes life SO much easier for me)

Good luck!!!

Yikes that a tuff one b/c you dont want to upset your FMIL right before the wedding. I would just leave it alone- who cares its just a dinner and your guest know its not your house or your decision, Ive been to many parties or holiday gathering where the house was too small I just thought it was nice of them to open their homes up. let her do it you dont want other problems down the road if you give her this one you can win a different battle like kids and holidays etc. if you give her grief she will NEVER forget it you know how FMIL are
