What to do with an Unexpected Guest at Wedding?

Original post by fujamaga

What happens if someone RSVP'd no, or someone brings an extra date, etc. to the wedding and doesn't tell you beforehand, but just shows up the day of the wedding? What do you do? Are you 'supposed' to carry around cash all day to pay for these extra guests?

I'm asking, because I KNOW I'll have this problem. One of my 'friends' already told me he wasn't sure if he'll make it but to please save him a seat, he'll come when he can...

We only told them 150.....and it will be like
180-190 LOL
Boy are they in for a surprise. LOL

so wait youre not going to tell them? just asking bc then they'll have to set up not even seats but extra tables the day of your wedding if they only find out when guests get there. I mean a few they can put at extra tables but about 40ppl they might need more tables. And usually they utilize the whole room so they'll have to figure out how to do the tables and on top of that there wont be cp's or stuff like that on those tables.

I personally called up everyone that did not mail back their RSVP so I really dont expect anyone to pop up. If someone does pop up I am going to tell my bridal attendant not to let them in, I dont care who they are.
Other people may be more accommodating......I just think its rude of the person that shows up unexpected

I agree 100%!!!

What if someone who RSVP'd yes comes with a guest (but never RSVP'd the guest)? This is what I am afraid will happen at my wedding. People will bring people without asking first!!

We were afraid that this would happen so we did not make any of the tables the max number, our tables held 12 so we did 10 per table in case we needed to add anyone

Thats what I am doing most tables will only have 10 per table but hold 12.... just in case

be careful, because it is my understanding that at some places if you give them all 10 per table they will put round tables in the room as opposed to the oval ones that hold 12.

i refuse to open up gift envelopes on my wedding to pay for some inconsiderate person(because that's what they are) who rsvp no/ or not at all and then show up, or show up with a guest that was not invited. i say gone are the days where u have to accomodate stupidity, i mean, weddings have been going on since foreverness. the concept of rsvp is not new! i'm tired of the idea of brides having to be overly grateful for the company of a guest no matter how bad the situation.. i mean YES, i'll be overly grateful for the company of my guests, but not the inconsiderate ones that can't even take the time to mail back a pre stamped envelope!

Re: What to do with an Unexpected Guest at Wedding?

When I read your question to FH earlier tonight, he said the same thing that I was thinking..... no way!! We've spent too much time and money planning everything to deal with inconsiderate people who can't RSVP by the date requested. Most people have planned events like this before and know that when you're dealing with catering, you must give a final headcount. So, as long as we make our minimum, what we're going to do is give a copy of our final RSVP'd guestlist to our RH and tell them that anyone NOT on that list is not allowed in. It may sound cold, but then again, to show up without telling anyone you're coming is also rude. FH said he'd never do that to any of his friends and family, why should they do that to us. He makes a good point.

i didn't know of ANY issues the day of my wedding...i found out later on that two people showed up un-expectedly..my mom & the RH took care of it...they put extra chairs at a table & it worked out because we had two no-shows so we didn't have to pay extra for them

Pega . . . which tables did you use at CB, round or oval? Curious because this is what I want to do . . . . 10 at each but room, in case . . . .
