To go along with the scanner I got for my birthday, DH went hog wild and got me a whole new computer. The thing is amazing.
Does anyone know what I can do with the old one? I'm sure I couldn't sell it because it's five years old (therefore, in computer years, about a hundred years old.) Can I donate it somewhere? It includes the monitor and the keyboard, too. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with it. The cheapo that I am, I would have been happy with it for the indefinite future but Pat is into computers and wanted something fancy schmancy.

make sure that before you donate your computer that everything personal on your hard drive is erased. i am thinking about getting a new computer and i was told that it is possible to get old info off the hard drive. there has been alot of internet discussion about this.

you can donate it to the salvation army- i just donated my old computer to them- along w/ clothes, books, magazines, so forth.

You can also sell it on Ebay. Find out what the model number is and do a search on ebay. See what other people are getting for it and put yours up too. If you decide to do this...MAke sure you erase your hard drive of all your personal information, and also you may want to dust the harddrive so it is like it was when you got it 5 years ago. I suppose you have Windows 98 first edition on there right?
If you put it on Ebay, include a really good description and really good pictures. You will sell it.

Thanks for the all the suggestions. Scott, I'm not sure I could sell it because it only has Windows 95. DH says it's being completely phased out and sure enough, our new printer/scanner would not have been compatible with the old computer. I'll take a look, though.
I also say donate it. I sent my old computer to my little cousins in PR that couldn't that my family couldn't afford things like that. They appreciate it sooo much and they use it to do their school projects. I felt sooo proud of myself.

I say donate it to a school. If you need anyone to take it off your hands, I could use another one in my classroom. I am in an underpriviliged area and our computer in the classroom was recently stolen.

Thanks so much for all your help. Shelly, the first thing I did when I saw your post was fill out the paperwork with the Cristina Foundation. It sounds like a great cause. Jodi, if anything falls through with it (which is possible because they have pretty strict requirements) the computer is YOURS.
