Okay, don't ask but my church does NOT want birdseed thrown because they pay too much money to clean the bird poop so they prefer rice which kills the birds - go figure . I don't like anything being thrown and me and I don't want bubbles that may stain our dresses. Butterflies are too expensive and my best friend who got married a few months ago rang bells (so i don't want to do that too). I saw in the Oriental trading catalog these little 'clappers' that you use but I was wondering if anyone has any other 'Original' suggestions other than the ones I've mentioned and not too expensive (sorry so long)

Re: What to throw at Church???
I thought it was recently proven that rice does not harm birds at all. They have pretty heart shaped rice available at Michaels.
Also bubbles are pretty or what about rose petals?

Re: What to throw at Church???
Firegal - your church sounds like mine with forbidding rose petals! I had my heart set on rose petals- offered to have SILK roses, answer: NO it stains the concete; asked for confetti, answer NO again - JEEZ! So, I have birdseed and bubbles as an option only too! I think I am doing the heart-shaped seed/rice in cute bags - althogh this past weekend I visited a little store in Glen Cove that will make silk roses and people take them - the rice is INSIDE the roses for throwing. I thought that was a nice idea! GOOD LUCK!
Someone had these on an earlier post. I saved the pic, because I love the idea! I believe they dissolve in water, so when it rains they will wash away, and they are not harmful to birds.
Hope this helps you! Good Luck!

Re: What to throw at Church???
What about dried lavender? I tossed that idea around (no pun intended ) before we decided against marrying at a church...
I don't think it's been proven that rice isn't harmful to birds...I think they've just come up with 'safe for birds' rice and that's what's being sold now - at places like Martha Stewart online and such.

Re: What to throw at Church???
Thanks everyone. I will try Michaels for their rice and I will go onto Martha Stewart to look for the dissolving hearts - that's if my church will permit those

Re: What to throw at Church???
My church doesn't allow petals or birdseed and I didn't want rice bc of the poor birdies (they don't allow it anyway), but the church does allow the dissolvable rice, like the heart shaped from Martha Stewart. Michaels also sells the dissolvable rice. I guess it dissolves as soon as it gets wet, so it won't choke little Tweetie.

OLP won't let you throw anything either! Liability if someone slips or gets him in the eye. I am stuck with the bubbles...

Re: What to throw at Church???
aliasPook, OLP won't either? I'm at St. Joe's just down the road in Hewlett. They won't let me throw anything inside either. The flower girl can't throw petals down the aisle. I've looked forward to that since I was little... Oh well....

Re: What to throw at Church???
Our church will not allow rose petals either - or birdseed, and, we cannot use a runner. They don't want the liability of someone tripping. The aisle is carpeted though... but I want a RUNNER!!!
Brat, I know.
