Re: What to wear?
I'd have to disagree! prom dresses are not appropriate for adults to wear to a memorial dance/dinner. Go for understated elegance - formal, yet classy.

Re: What to wear?
I have seen girls wear bridesmaids dresses to there proms, i have seen girls wear very elegant dresses to there prom and to other formal affiars. In fact I wore my prom dress 3 times afterwards for formal affairs.
have you ever been to Russo's LISA. its a black tie place and you need formal...Some prom dresses are in fact very elegant and i am giving an idea of what to wear...think prom....
have you been to my HS prom, it was black tie and very very formal

Re: What to wear?
I have been to Russos
I'm not looking to start a fight.
My impression of prom dresses is that they are more youthful and flashy. Not always the case, but thats the impression I get when I think prom.

For Russo's yes elegant and classy and very formal, but there are also prom dresses that were bought in davids bridal, in bridal reflactions and in other dress shops...prom does not always equal youthful and flashy...

Re: What to wear?
I think you would defintely need to wear a long gown, that is a start as it is a formal affair. Cocktail length is not dressy enough.

Re: What to wear?
I think the 'prom' thing is generational. When I went to the prom 12 years ago it was all about sequins, bubble gum pink and purple, and lots of pouf, so that's what I envision when I hear 'think prom' That's definitely not what Michelle (or any adult for that matter) would want to wear to an elegant affair today.
Now play nice, girls

Re: What to wear?
Michele, as you know my ex is a NYC Fireman. I went with him to the fireman's ball at Chateau Briand & my MOH was married at Russo's. I wore a long black gown. Dress formal.

When I think of Prom I think Big dresses and Pink and bubbles..
Hey I wore a gown to my prom that probally weighed more then I did..
All beads... I loved it...
I am SOOO sick of Black. Its boring and everyone wears it..
Get something sexy and formal..

Re: What to wear?
I went to a FDNY dinner dance Russo's years ago. Everyone wore cocktail dresses/evening gowns.
And I wore a pale blue backless cocktail dress.

Re: What to wear?
I went to an Emerald Society (NYPD) Dinner/Dance last week at Leonard's of Great Neck - sounds like the same kind of deal. I wore a knee length black cocktail dress with strappy heels, dress-up jewelry and night time makeup. Most of the other women there were dressed similarly. There were some floor length gowns and some updos, but the majority of women wore cocktail dresses, either knee length or tea-length. Most had a wrap of some kind along with a little cocktail purse.
