What to wear at the hospital...

What to wear at the hospital...

What do I need to get to wear at the hospital? My DH insists we get a bag ready, 'Just in case!' I'm aloud to bring my own gown and robe. What kind do I need, and what else?

At the hospital where I'm delivering, you can wear your own gown and robe, but suggest wearing the hospital gowns because you might stain yours.

The nurses suggested bringing:
- your toiletries
- plastic flip flops for the shower
- slippers or flip flops to walk around
- An outfit for you and baby to go home

I know I'm forgetting things...

Bring towels!!!! After showering in the hospital, I was disgusted by the TINY paper thin towel they gave me. Towels from home would have been such a treat.

if you can, stay in your hospital gown while in labor...lots of staining going on. If you have a wtaer birth or go into the shower during labor, they can give you another one or two gowns so dont worry

bring comfortable/thick socks to wear..these will get tossed after labor... BELEIVE
ME!...also may want a pair of thick/squishy slippers to wear. ( I did all my labor standing up)...scrunchies for your hair..bring your own pillow too.

tolietries..hair dryer...MAXI PADS...more comfy socks. I did not bring my own nightgown or robe since I felt that I would stain this stuff anyway=its up to you.

calling cards...bring them since ur hubby cannot use the cell phone to make your annoucements to everyone...

put thick towels in the car. In case your water breaks, you will need to sit on the towels on the way to the hospital

thats all I can think of now

I second this. Too bad *I* didn't do it.
Thank goodness for leather interior!!!

My childbirth instructor suggested keeping a plastic garbage bag in the car when you are full term. You never know when or where you water will break. I sat on one of the tall kitchen bags to go to the hospital. When my water broke it was like Niagra Falls.

I wore the hospital gown the first day but I was glad to have my own robe. I brought pjs for the next night and day. I am more comfy in pj with top and bottoms than in a gown.

Grannie panties.

Non-perishable snacks. I had cereal bars and granola snacks for DH in the delivery room and he never had them but I was glad I did when I was ravenous at 4am after I had Luke.

Calling card so you dont run up charges on the hospital phone.

Your own pillow

Baby journal so you can write down your thoughts and if it has a spot for the baby's footprint so you can have them do that in the delivery room.

Maternity clothes to wear home. You will at least need the maternity pants.

Hmmmmnn...what else

You ain't kidding about the towels!!!! Both in the hospital and to bring w/you in the car in case your water breaks! I went to the hospital with 3 huge overnight maxi pads on PLUS a towel and I sat on one in the car also. Needless to say, everything was soaked!! Once I got to the hospital, they put down one of those sheet-things underneath me because I wouldn't sit on the couch while I waited to be called!!! (They did call me right away though)

Bring a bag with your toiletries and slippers!!

I wore the hospital gown the first 2 days and then the next 2 my own PJ's(I had a c-section so I was there for 4 days). I also brought my own robe and slippers. Magazines or a book may be an option too. you only get a couple of channels on hospital TV

I second shower shoes! (I didn't have them - uck uck!)

I brought comfy pj's that looked halfway decent (old navy type) because I knew I'd have alot of visitors and wouldn't be totally comfortable in a gown.

Lots of bras, socks, slippers.

Oh here's a mistake I made - I had my DH take my coat home the first night, as there was no room in the room - but we forgot about a coat for me going home! It was chilly!!!

I had Scott bring me a towel the next day. The hospital towels are small and not very fluffy at all!
I also wore my own nightgown on day 3, after the operation. I felt like a person again wearing my own stuff. You must have slippers and a robe though.
I also brought 2 of my own pillows and am glad that I did. A camera, film, batteries are also very important.
