Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I know this sounds cliche`, but for a black tie november wedding, I probably would just wear a long black gown. Figure this--if you own one already, you can get use out of it again and most likely, no one has seen you in it yet, or if you were planning on buying something , then you could buy a new black dress and chances are, you will use it again anyway. I just think its a foolproof way to feel comfortable, especially if you dont want to stand out, yet still look classic. Good luck!!

Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I agree-definitely a black dress or navy-something dark. I can say that I went to a wedding oct of last year and a girl was wearing a bridesmaid looking dress in a rose color and I noticed her more then anyother guest.
ETS:Good Luck-I always have issues figuring out what to wear to black-tie weddings
The dress you posted is very pretty, but for a black tie event I'd stick to black or navy.

Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I have worn black, red, brown and navy to black tie affairs. BTW cocktail dresses are acceptable as long as they are not too hoochie.

I agree with wearing a darker color as well. I went to a 'gala' last year, black tie event and everyone had a black or dark dress on.

Black Tie is definitely formal, I wouldn't wear a tea length.
I would say any color but floor length.

Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I would definitely do a floor length gown. As far as color, while I personally would stick to a darker color or red just b/c I love red, any color should be okay. I like the dress you posted but it does look bridesmaidsy so I wouldn't wear that.

Brown is definitely fine, but I would stick to floor length.

I'd say that dress is nice but in a darker color.

Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I had a black tie wedding. It was very formal. People wore all colors and lengths and they were all appropriately dressed. One person wore a long white dress with huge red flowers on it, but she looked lovely and did not take the spotlight from anyone.
Black tie indicates formal - that the MEN should wear tuxedos or dark suits but does not necessarily indicate the LENGTH of a woman's dress. I would wear a solid dark color of any length between the knee and to the floor. Times have changed.

I went to a black tie event at the Waldorf Astoria last year for work-- I think that is the epitome of A Black Tie Afair! My dress was black-- it came down to right above my ankle- I wouldn't quite call it tea length though-- I wore pretty heels & my hair up & I fit in perfectly. Good luck!

Re: what to wear to a black tie wedding?
I wore a floor length cornflower blue dress to Leslie's wedding which was black tie. (Ironically it was originally a BM dress) No one had a problem with it except for my DH who said I should have been wearing black.
I told him black tie and formal attire requested simply means you have to get dressed up in formal wear and not show up in that sundress you wear to the beach or that low cut mini dress you wear to the club.

I have to say that I do not agree. Blk tie events are formal evening gown events and cocktail/tea length are not necessarily formal enough.
