What to wear to a winter wedding?

FH's close friend is getting married in January, and he's the best man. I'm not part of the bridal party, but I've also never been to a wedding in January, and want to make sure I'm dressed appropriately. It's a night time wedding. Any suggestions? I also would like not to freeze

I was thinking of a cocktail type of dress but not sure where to start looking!

I'd probably wear a cocktail dress and just bring a shawl or a nice jacket. I'm sure they will have a coat check.

Thanks ladies. I wasn't sure if I had to wear a longer dress because it's winter lol. Cocktail dress makes it easy on me.

I have a winter wedding coming up and I'm wearing an at-the-knee length long-sleeve wrap dress. Hope this helps!

we had a wedding the day after christmas, and I wore a cocktail dress - the top was a goldish color and the bottom, black. I wore a sweater with it bc it was FREEEZING lol.
