My fiancee has been raving about a cake that he had at a wedding once, before we met. He says it was 'flaky, but kind-of like a cannoli.' We have yet to figure out what kind of a cake it is, and he wants nothing except for this cake.
We've tried asking two local bakeries and they look at us as if we were nuts!!! We know it's not regular yellow cake nor napolean cake. What else could it be?!?!

Re: What type of cake is it?
do you know what the cake part was like? was it regular cake? you can definitely get a cannoli filling in almost any cake.

Re: What type of cake is it?
He said it had a cannoli filling, but the consistency (of the cake part) was flaky -yet thicker like the shell of a cannoli, and a little crunchy. I have never heard of such a cake!!

Re: What type of cake is it?
umm, have to think about this. there's also something called a cassada (sp??) cake - that has cannoli filing and i think the cake part is not a normal 'cake'.
edited: i don't think in a cassada cake the cake part is normal cake - sorry it's late!!

Re: What type of cake is it?
Thanks Karen, I will try that suggestion. You have to see the face of the people at the bakery around the corner from my house. Every other day I pop in there to ask if they know what kind of cake it is!! LOL... They think I'm nuts. It's just that my fiancee hates sweets and doesn't want to eat cake to begin with... Unless I figure out what kind of cake it was that he had. We tried so many cakes, believe it or not I'm getting sick of cake!! LOL.. We tried napolean cake...(3 times, 3 different bakeries, just to make sure!!)... Let me tell you it is delicious, but not the cake. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to try Karens!! Thanks!

Re: What type of cake is it?
It was a rent-a-hall... not an extravagant wedding. Just an awesome cake...
