What types of playgroups, activites do you participate in with son/daughter?

Now that my son is getting a bit older and has many more happy moments during the day, I would like to possibly start attending some type of group. What types of things are out there? Can you recommend anything? How much do they run? Thanks so much.

I wanted to go to the mommy and me yoga they had at the hospital where I gave birth but the schedule didn't fit. it was for babies from 6 weeks to 6 months and we missed that entire session. Now at 7 1/2 months he is too old but that was a neat idea.

I am going to look into my library, they have tons of programs for kids and I saw something about a storytime for crawlers, he's not crawling but he gets around so I don't think they would turn us away.

Check into your town they may have something similiar.

Saf-t-swim offers classes for babies FREE under 6 months. Amber loves it and is doing incredibly well (except for Saturday when she fell asleep on her instructor's shoulder during class ).

Oh my g-d when my older one 7 yrs ago was little. I did everything under the sun that fit into my schedule. I was so busy by the end of the day But I loved it. I loved the saf-t-swim classes. I did gymboree and music and mommy at a palce in Port Washington. That was when I was a SAHM. I loved it and wish I could still do it but whating on financial situation to iron itself out and then SAHM, I am

I was also thinking about joining a group like Gymboree. I'm not sure between the play group or the music. Has anyone done both of them?
Where is music together?

The mommies network link doesn't work. I tried a search but still nothing. Can you repost.

How much (ballpark) is a class at Gymboree? How long does each session last (6 one hour classes, etc.)

Thanks!

We just signed Luke up for Gymboree and it's about $300 for 13 weeks. We checked out some other places near us and they were comparable, give or take $30, some had a few more weeks. The reason we went with Gymboree is b/c they also have something called Open Play - where you can bring them other days of the week to play on the equipment. For my very active 2 year old, this is a must for the winter. Truthfully, he's kind of bored with the class itself but the Open Play is really good and today he and another boy ran around on their own and had a great time so that makes it worth it. Other places had just one visit per week.

We also do GTG with other kids fairly often at home - either friends with kids his age or he also has cousins that live nearby and they tear it up together at least once a week. We bring him to the park as long as it's not freezing out too or even in the yard. Gymboree's his only structured play activity. And my peanut is too small to run around but she already has a best friend who she sees fairly often - Mommy is a walking buddy of mine.

We live in Massapequa and the library has a free Mommy & Me group. You sign up for a few weeks at a time. I brought Luke when he was about 11 months but Im going to check into it for Tara now. JMO, but I wouldnt pay $300 for a gym class for a 6 month old. Thats just me though, Im not criticizing anyone else.
