My FH and I are getting read to book our hall and go check out other vendors for our July 2006 wedding. However, we were upset about the deposit and payment plan 'our' hall has. They say $500 down and then monthly payments for 1 yr until 1/2 of the balance is paid. However, they only accpet credit card for the deposit. That means our monthly payments would be in the $700 range. There is NO WAY FH and I can afford cash/check payments of that. We are going to talk to them within the next 2 weeks to see what they can do for us. Ultimatly my question is, what hall's (and other vendors) DO accept credit cards for all payments??? I think that CC is going to be our primary source for paying for most things, then pay off the CC as we go along. Thanks for any and all help!!

I know mine operates under the same terms -- CC for the down payment only. From reading the boards, I don't remember any hall having different terms but that's just my memory.
It's a lot to put on a CC, though (but that's none of my business.)

I think most reception halls take cash only.

We can use our CC but NOT for the final payment. That has to be in cash or certified check. I found that alot of vendors are the same.

I never even heard of a monthly payment. I think our deposit was a bit more though...sorry I can't be of more help...

My halls took a credit card for every payment we made...
This isn't the best thing to do but maybe you can get one of those credit cards that come with checks, or a cash advance, or you can take out a loan???

My hall is the same way. We put down a deposit with a credit card, but all other payments are cash or certified check.

I know it's not a good idea to put stuff on cc's, but we do not have the cash on hand right now. And are afraid of making a committment to make monthy payments that we may not be able to make!! The hall (sorry, forgot to mention that) Jericho Terrace, we both LOVE, however, if I need to go else where to a place that will accomodate our needs/wants, we will. Actually, I am going to look into getting a cash advance from cc or getting checks from them. AGH! Thanks for your help thus far.

I think we may have to do that. Let's say our total is 18,000 (just talking round #'s), we put $5000 on cc as deposit, leaving balance of $13,000. Divide that by 2 is 6500, divided by 12 months is $541 per month. I am afraid to commit to that. Hmm, what if we put more down....

Yes, just the catering hall. That is not a set number. We were quoted $80/pp plus tax and gratuity for the room that has a guarantee of 150. But FH saw the other room Dome Room, and he fell in love with it, the guarantee is 200 for that room, but the BM we met with (not OUR BM) said he could lower it to 175. Then MOH and I went to see the room, I ran into the original BM I talked with who said he had heard that we liked the larger room, and said that 'the higher the guarantee, the price per person goes down' I had never heard of this. But due to another appt I had, we could not stay and talk. Now I am even more confused than I was a day ago! I feel like I am going crazy. Our wedding is 22 months away and I feel like calling it all off!

first - don't call the wedding off. it will get easier. leave a small deposit and work out a payment plan you can stick to, don't let the hall dictate what the plan is. i'm sure you can work something out. best of luck.

I've never heard of a hall REQUIRING monthly payments. That really sucks. I have heard of people requesting a monthly payment to make it easier, but never someone HAVING to pay monthly. I agree with whomever said to look into a loan. It will be lower interest than paying with cc. Either that, or I would definitely look around at other halls. I know you love this one, but in the end, you have to decide if it's worth possibly putting yourself into credit card debt for.

Friends of mine got married at Jericho Terrace and they only had to pay a certain amount for a few months before the wedding- I think $500 a month for 10 months maybe??
Anyway- I know Proline Studios takes credit cards (photography). We didn't use them but almost did... all of our vendors only take cash (maybe the limos-- haven't officially done that yet) or check.
