Now I am RBA

I will be RBAB

I am hyphenating so that I can keep my maiden name for professional reasons and I can use my married name for anything else-- regardess either name is part of my legal name.

The problem with hyphenating is you get filed under the start of first hyphenated name -- that is why I am making maiden middle, no hyphen. ie if we travel together, I want to have us have the same last name but this way on legal documents and professionally, I stay with maiden still a legal name -- I spen LOADS of time on this one Randi!

It is so funny bc ppl ask me all the time if I plan to keep my hyphenated last name but three last names is too much for anyone! Though I have to admit, lately, it feels really sad to think that I will lose that long, unique last name...

I have heard it is a major pain in the arse to change your middle name.. I don't see that if we are on a plane together and I am traveling under Jones-Smith, and he is travelling under Smith- how that is a problem?

I hate this name change shite-- I mean, me even changing anything goes against what I always thought I'd do.

I so hear you on this one. I mean, my mom kept her name 30 years ago - how is that for a pioneer! But what can I do since I already have a hyphenated last name? I feel like I have no choice.

Randi -- it is incredibly EASY to change your middle name -- my sister did it a few years back as have many of my friends. Wehn you fill out the SS form simply list it as you would like to have it read. Yourfirstname Yourmaidenname Yournewlastname. Same with Marriage cert -- you are filling in all the same except for surname just his name and under middle put the new middle.
The problem is you are filed under J for jones-smith and he is under S for smith. Not a big deal but one I have heard gets to be a big pain in the arse.
