I know everyone is different when it comes to diet and excersize, but I was wondering what plan works for you?
I am trying to find new ideas for myself. For the past few weeks I have been on WW and it really hasnt been working for me. I was thinking about going back on atkins or low carb, but I dont want to go to the extreme. I just need something that will work for me.
I would love to just eat healthy, but most of the time I dont know what healthy is.
I know salads, egg whites, whole wheat products, fruit and veggies....too...But all of that gets boring after a while. If I get bored, I am not going to stick to anything. I know that already. I guess that is why most of my diets have failed in the past.
I know I have to start excersizing, and I am going to try today. I will either bundle myself up and go walking around the neighborhood, or I will do walk away the pounds in the comfort of my own living room.
Thanks, Scott

I know for me, when I don't exercising, I don't see a big weight loss. I never believed it but exercising takes a big place in weight loss.
Good lucki

Scott, do you ever read Cooking Light? It's got some great recipes in it. That will help you figure out what's healthy. I subscribe to that as well as Health magazine.

There is a book that goes along with the South Beach diet series. It doesn't explain the diet but it gives food and nutritional information along with recipes. I am not on the diet but use this book to help me make smart decision.
Like if you aren't sure what's the best veggie to have if you are looking for low sugar and low carb....you can look up veggies and it will break them all down for you and tell you what's your best bet.

I get this magazine too....it helps me substitute healthier ingrediants into fattening recipes. Most recipes I make come out well.

Re: What works for you?
what about joining a gym? if i go straight home after work, i don't want to do anything but sit around and watch tv, so i've been going to the gym right after work. i've also started working out with a personal trainer...knowing that i have an appt and have to be there helps (and i don't want to waste the extra money it costs).

Re: What works for you?
I am not the type of person that can go to a gym on a regular basis. I will stivk to it for a month or two but after that I start slacking...and then I never go again.
Last year I joined powerhouse for 3 months and I went for one month...As soon as I missed a day I never went back.
My problem is that I get bored with it....Well i guess thats my second problem, the first being that I am lazy lol. Scott

You sound like my DH. He actually went to the gym with me on Saturday and he felt so good that he wanted to go again last night, but we couldn't go because we had to go out looking for a Christmas tree (and never found one ). Anyway, so now he's like, 'well I already missed too many days so now I don't want to go anymore'. He thinks he'll have to start all over. He doesn't like going to the gym because he thinks it's boring. I don't think it's all that exciting either, but I get a high off of the way I feel after I've done a hard workout. That's what keeps me going back. Once it becomes a habit for you, it'll be easier and easier to go to the gym. So you just have to make yourself go for a few months straight and you'll see it won't be so bad after a while.

Re: What works for you?
I really love some of the classes at my gym. I schedule them into my week the way I schedule a meeting at work or an appointment. I like that they're structured, there's people around, good music etc.
Most of the time, I think it's fun when I'm there. Getting there can be a mental battle. My favorite mantra when I feel that way is something someone else passed on to me
'you don't have to like it, but you have to do it.'
('have to' if I wanted the outcomes that I was saying that I wanted).

Some days I just don't emotionally want to go to the gym. Those days I drag myself there with the mind-set of doing a light 30 minutes. Usually once I get in the mode I do more.
this is exactly what I do , I tell myself just show up at gym, get on a machine and stop whenever, usually I do over 30 minutes. it is all in my head

Re: What works for you?
What works for me? Well, I do belong to a gym, but we recently just got a treadmill. So on days that I don't go to the gym. I'll run on the treadmill. I hate running on the treadmill at the gym, but at home in front of my TV, it's awesome. I can watch a 1 hour TV and run 6 miles without it feeling like a chore.
I still do love my Step and Spin classes. On Friday mornings I started going to a Spin class at 6 am with my friend. We also try and meet at the gym another morning during the week. Weekends I usually go both on Saturday and Sunday.

Re: What works for you?
Scott, you and are very much alike. I get bored with diet food after only 2 days, even though I really enjoy it as a compliment to my diet.
Because of that, I got hooked on diet pills for about a year right before I started dating FH. Of course I was thrilled with the results, but eventually, and reluctantly, realized the risks involved weren't worth it.
So now I try to keep up a steady gym routine. Starting in January I'll start a strict diet, but am also looking for a good diet plan. I remember a great one from back in my days at Lucille Roberts (like 7 years ago!). I stuck to it and lost 5 lbs in one week. If I could only find that one again...

Re: What works for you?
I do a half hour of cardio 5-6 days a week and weight train 5 days a week. I also eat healthy, veggies, meat and some carbs but carbs with fiber. I feel so healthy when i stick to my routine.

Do you weight train on the same days you do cardio??
What does your cardio consist of for a 1/2 hour? Running? Walking? Jogging? Elliptical? Other.....
