OK so DH has had this dog for a few years. DH lived home before we married and his family mostly took care of it, so it is a family dog even though DH brought it into the house. Now his parents are saying they don't want to take care of it anymore and we have to take the dog. We live in a Co-op with not a lot of room for this dog. DH and I are out of the house for up to 10 hours a day working. The dog sheds at the drop of a hat( I am a bit of a neat freak) and I would rather not have it live with us. I always had dogs growing up so its not an issue of hating dogs. I just don't think this is a good place to have a dog, he will be alone all day when he is used to being around people, both his parents are retired and cater to the dog. Anyone ever have the problem of being forced to live with a pet you don't want to? Any advice?

Yeah he says he would like to take him. But I don't want him, shouldn't I have a say?

I'll play devils advocate..Since you dont want the dog what other alternatives do you have to offer DH who has known this dog longer than he has been married to you and probably has an attachment..are you willing to risk him being upset..even though he'll probably tell you its not a big deal?

What if 'the shoe was on the other foot'? How would you react? How would you want DH to respond?

Re: What would you do?
I can relate to you 100%. My DH had a dog way before we met and there was no way that he was going to get rid of it. We had to move out of my old apt which was an incredibly low rent because they did not allow dogs in the building. We had a very hard time getting a new place because of the dog. He wanted to buy a co-op or condo, but we were so limited by having a dog that I felt I did not want to buy something just for the dog. So we are now renting and paying a fortune at this place because they took dogs. I am not a fan of the dog either. It sheds like crazy and there is always hair all over if I do not vacuum all the time. The dog was not trained well as far as going on the couch, bed, etc. I stopped that immediately. Then, my DH gets upset when I do not want to take the dog out. So yes, I can understand where you are coming from 100%. Thanks for letting me vent!
